What do you want to see in the mainframe?

Hello There!,

We have a question for you,

What would you like to see from us here at JP Mainframe?

We know that a lot of you are remnant members of JPL and do not want to see that community die, so please help!

Both Staff and Member's activity has dropped greatly over the last little while ( It has been a while since I've been around) so I personally want to find a way to reinvigorate everyone's passion once more including the staff!

I know we have a feedback thread but this is a little more dire and needs a thread of it's own.

Good suggestions/Feedback to give might look like :

What are we doing right?
What are we doing wrong?
What do you want to see us doing?
What do you expect of staff?
etc


Please either sound off below or Private Message myself with whatever you can think of.

Well I received an email with this message. Figured I'd log back in and post why I've been gone. Back in June I ran into an unresolved issue with my laptop. I had been planning an update to my JPOG JW pack and was updating stuff before that occurred. I went a while without my laptop just doing other things like playing my DS to tide me over. When I finally got a new laptop as a gift I've kind of lost the interest in JP and JPOG. Other non-JP dinosaur related things have been holding my interest such as keeping track on the Beasts of the Mesozoic line (definitely this one) and Saurian.

If I had to give a single suggestion it would be themes. I miss the green one I used back on JPL and would like something like that here, but that's not stopping me from using the site. Again the lack of activity and lack of interest in JP currently has been for me. Maybe when more stuff on the second JW film pops up it may revive that interest for me.

I just want people to post in my FanFiction thread, but I guess that's not up to staff.

The look of the forum is definitely something I have looked into, I am thinking more so of the physical content within the boards also.

Should we have a mother site separate for the forum?

I'd like to see some more news posts on the front page (even if there isn't any actual news) - just something to start conversation, even if it's silly.

Also (think I've mentioned this elsewhere, but still): some interactive things like a caption contest. Those are always fun!

I second the news idea. There were 20k people talking about Jurassic World 2 on facebook. There is info to be shared and talked about.

Obviously I'd like to see a real RPG that runs and keeps going. There is interest but a lack of activity due to infrequent updates and such.

No, you don't need a website. No offense, though I'm sure it will, but the forum is barely being kept up with so how is adding more going to help? Just a rhetorical question.

My honest, adult opinionis that you need to rethink this staff thing. No offense but we've been through this alrwady. Empty promises of " behind the scenes stuff coming," haven't been kept. Time to truly evaluate who is here doing more than just holding a position and not doing anything. Sorry, it's my opinion that their is too much of a clique involved with JPL and now JMF. If you don't like it that's fine.

Glad you seconded the news thread and I agree with your point on added a website. To get a medium in that I've changed what sections shows up on the portal side of things to the News Forum. Which is where we can post news.

On the RPG front, it's something I definitely want to grow personally. As to how we go about that is another story.

I understand what you are saying about staff. Myself I know I am not the greasiest and I'll admit to that. I'll take your words and list them in my notes and move from there. Thank you Speigel.

This might not help but here are a few reasons I haven't been on in a while.

JP Legacy closing has still been somewhat traumatic to the community for me. I still get depressed and like to try and forget about it, which obviously leads to the problem of me not being here. Some users will never come back and that stings. Which leads into my next point.

Lack of activity in general from other users. I feel that that this fanbase is somewhat bored of JP at the moment. I'm a bit burnt out too. There isn't much to talk about and get hyped over so I think some people don't feel the need to come back yet.

This is even more disheartening when you post a topic about the older movies or something else in the fandom. Like LK said it makes you not want to make the effort if nobody reads what you have to say.

So it's a vicious cycle at the moment. I don't know if there's anything you can do about it.

I can definitely empathise with you on the first point. It still doesn't feel right. The only thing we can do is try to pick ourselves up and move on.

I think now that some stuff has started to surface again it is a good time to bolster a minimum of activity. Even during the dead period, JPL still was rather active.

I got the email and honestly I've just been too busy adulting to talk JP :/
I haven't really been on here too much, at least since registering after JPLegacy went offline.
There's a JP thing I need to craft up for Halloween, and there's still so much JP stuff I'm curious on or that'd be cool to ask about. Where's the time though.
Really if I had time I'd love to sit down and watch JW again. or any of the movies really. Maybe after this semester we can do an IRC group watch or something fun.

So keep the lights on don't let the auxiliary generator run out. I got a million lines of code to read still.

Would asking for a promotion blitz for this site count? I know this is slightly off topic but I think that if staff members and people who were in JPL for a long time were to do this, we'd get more members and this place would be more active.

Not only that, but can we crack down on deliberate flaming here and have a ban on "Who's the real torchholder of JPL's legacy" (pardon the pun)? When it was discovered that JPL was basically being revived, it led to a verbal civil war here between former JPL'ers that set us back quite a bit. If anything else, it temporarily revived the bad old days that JPL was known for. Back in late-2014 when I was a lurker there was flaming, complaining, and all sorts of other chaos that it caused Tyrannosaur to seriously consider shutting down JPL before JW even came out. I also remember how you (TRK) was locking threads left and right. Needless to say, nobody wants to remember those days. JPL 2.0 is coming like it or not, and we don't need the fanbase to be damaged even further then it already is.

I am sorry you feel that way and wouldn't wish that on anyone. I personally never saw any of this and there a no hard feelings for anything from me. I hope we can change the way you feel to be more positive about this place. You are most welcome here I can assure you of that. I will find a way for the RPs to be revived and responded to!

But if I was either there was a very good reason for it, which I've always explained why or It was because fights were getting out of control. If I've locked threads in the past that people wanted to be opened and that's caused anger I do apologise. From day one though I've always been for the community here and I'm trying my best to help it.

I'm not quite sure what "JPL 2" has to do with this. This is a separate site and while yes there are a lot of ex JPL staff here as staff members, 99% of us do not wish for this place to get the way JPL did back then. The civil war you speak of honestly died a while ago and that thread has been dead for months and nothing more came from it. I haven't actually seen the flaming you speak of for a while now. Everyone's moved on from the negativity and if I'm not mistaken people just want to have a place where they can enjoy taking about the franchise.

It back in late 2014 when I was a lurker when the interest among JW was at a fever pitch with the members of JPL at the time and the members where inadvertently kind of out of control with their passion. I hope that clears things up.

As for my 'promotion blitz' I'm talking about how every member here promotes this site on dinosaur/JP related Facebook and Twitter pages and stuff like that. Sorry that I didn't make it more specific in my last post.

Well, you shouldn't implement a "promotion blitz" before you have something more to offer. Having a ton of people show up to what is currently "nothing" or "nearly dead" is some regards gets us nowhere.

I guess most of my friends (Well some of them) staff here, and so forth. I guess...I'm the odd man on the site. I couldn't care less about RP's and Fanfiction, I kind of moved on from that life...as I've gotten older.

It's just the things I want to talk about, and so forth. Marvel Comics, JP, Star Wars etc...all have a topic on this site. But when I want to talk about something like the novel universe. It's one post every three months. Everyone's saying how they want more RP fans, I want more outside the RP and Fanfiction knowledge.

It's extremely not fun when everyone A. posts about the new movie. B. about RP's and fanfics and that's ALL we talk about. There's huge span of fandom, from the novels, to the comics, and more that just aren't getting as much love.


If we could promote better, send people to recruit others. Get the word out, advertise, make posts on other JP related media, have engaging posts like news reports, or conversation starters, just all around making it a cool hip place to be.

I feel it would work. The facebook page, and twitter page is there. But the reason IT DOESN'T grow is you're not going to Jurassic Park pages and letting people know about your product, you gotta get your name out there...you've got loyal fanbases.

You've just got to promote, and gain a following.

Maybe we could have a rewards program like Chuck E Cheese.

Can you Expand on that? Not familiar with Chuck E Cheese?

I'm not sure I follow. The only person to mention the RPG was me and the only person to say anything about fanfictions was lordK. That's what we are interested in though.

Also, it's really not all we talk about. In fact the only active topics here seem to be completely unrelated to JP or JW.

I'm just not following what your saying. You think the problem is that some of us are too focused on one thing? I'm just asking for clarity.

I think what he is saying is that there is not enough chat across all sections of the board.

This can be rectified. I had one idea. Basically hold weekly Chat topics in every section. If people participate we could set up some sort of prestige system that rewards people for participating ?
Just a brain storm at least anyway.

I know on my failed RPG forum I easily implemented a reward system with points that could be automatically awarded and/or given/taken at will.

If you look at my wiki thread, you'll see a similar idea.

In fact there aren't many people who I've actually disliked come to think of it. Which is great.

In fact I'd love to see more strange and quirky threads in general

If that is what you guys want then make it happen. Get posting and make it fun!

At the end of the day we are going to need a newer generation of staff eventually so ignite the change now and aspire to be those next few people!
