Oh yayyy.... the neverending conveyor belt of Illumination animated junkfood continues. At least 'Pets 2' is postponed for a little bit. As much as I am a JP fan and to a certain extent a fan of a lot of Universal's live action films and oldschool animation, Illumination does nothing for me as far as making me like Universal goes. At least most studios under Disney or WB brings something different or enjoyable to table.

I actually Sing. It was just popcorn entertainment centered around popular music, but it wasn't that awful. Despicable Me 3 also has me intrigued if only to see Trey Parker do something non-South Park. Minions 2 on the other hand.....no, just no. Secret Life of Pets was an ok movie, it worked off the basic Toy Story premise a lot of films do. A sequel sounds like a terrible idea though.

A Scarface reboot with Leonardo DiCaprio and Sofia Vergara will come out sometime this year.

It won't have the same feel like the original one had. That one was brutal, hardcore, and violent as hell. I just don't see how they can even come close in this age of PC.

Not to mention the fact that Sofia Vergara can't act. DiCaprio would be a solid choice were it up to me, but not with a non-actress like her.

They should have gotten J Lo. I know that she's been in some really crappy movies the last 15 years, but she is still a respectable actress who can put up a good performance.

Yeah, even J-Lo is a better candidate than Vergara. At least she can act, and like Affleck could greatly benefit from a revival of sorts.

i wonder if this Scarface reboot will have DiCaprio as a similar but differently-named character? 'cuz remember, Scarface with Al Pacino was itself a remake of an earlier film and Tony Montana wasn't in the first one, it was a different character named Tony Camonte

I remember seeing the Scarface for the very first time back when I was 14 or 15. I was blown away, literary by the violence and carnage and the brutality. The cocaine scene where Tony Montana sniffs his own drugs, I learned that was real via radio shows and "I Love The 80's" on VH1. Seeing that scene the whole way through...WOW.

I have never seen a movie like that since Apocalypse Now and even then the carnage had some point to it. Scarface was carnage for the sake of it, or at least it seemed like it to me at the time and to its credit, it worked.

TDM--Watch BASEketball if you want something Trey Parker...or Team America. Razz

As for Scarface, disappointed it isn't based on the original. lol Hard to do a better version of the 80s one.

Also Javier Bardem should have been Montana not DiCaprio. Especially if his sister is supposed to be Vergara... There are Cubans that look like Leo but they usually don't have sisters that look like Vergara then.

Osh--they might as well just do a new story then as well. As the original was based on Al Capone. Obviously Montana wasn't and if they change it further...well...

Ouch...Ben Affleck's recent movie 'Live By Night' is a $75 million dollar loss.

That's as much as GB 2016 lost. That's gotta hurt. To be fair, I heard that most of it is WB's fault for making the movie shorter...The exact same problem that Batman vs. Superman had.

WB is starting to really lapse into their late 90s phase. But instead of everything being about selling toys, it's about optimizing box office by shortening their films, often at the expense of the film's actual quality. The result; box office disappointment. After over ten years of respectability at the box office and with critics, they can't seem to catch a break. And they only have themselves to blame.

They really needed Legendary more then what we originally thought. It's as if they forgot what happened to put themselves in the position in the first place.

What movie/s is she in this year? Because I'm not aware of any movie she stars in for 2017. I know that Chris Pratt is going to more then make up for it with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 this year. Add in JW2/JP5 next year, and this is just a small bump in the road.

Only thing IMDB has her listed in is something called Red Sparrow and an untitled project that's in post production. Nothing that really stands out.

Just 2 movies this year for her? I thought she'd be in 3-5 movies. I know her stock has dropped the last 3 years, but she's still held in high regard in Hollywood.

Can you imagine how weird, and possibly even plain wrong, it would have felt to have Miles Teller in Ryan Gosling's place? I don't want to come across as needlessly throwing shade on the guy, but he's not an actor I can see playing the sort of character Gosling played.

I saw the trailer and I can tell that Ryan Gosling was the far superior choice for the movie. I honestly think that Emma Watson could have pulled it off though.

Sony said it's American movie branch lost a $962 million dollars.

After reading this, it looks like Paul Feig's comment about his failed GB2016 reboot needing $500 million dollars to be successful was right after all.

I wasn't 100% certain at first, but now I'm getting a strong suspicion that Sony will start to properly consider selling their film divisions to a more responsible corporation or successful studio by the end of this year.

It's safe to say that the merging of the video game division with the movie division was probably just a random idea which wasn't serious that somehow went public. And even if it was, the backlash when it went out forced Sony to cancel that idea.

Despite my love of science fiction, I have not gotten around to reading even the first Dune novel, and despite being aware of the David Lynch film it didn't stand out to me as a quintessential 80s genre favourite that I needed to see. But that isn't to say I won't see it, maybe I will out of curiosity; but the book will find its way on my reading list soon I hope.

It will be interesting to see how Legendary is able to create interest in a modern Dune adaptation, but with Denis Villeneuve it appears to be in great hands! And if Blade Runner 2049 proves to be a hit, then everyone will be all the more confident in it's chances of success.

You know, every time I feel like Warner Bros are making themselves to be the biggest screw-ups on the block, Sony politely comes around to remind me that they are the biggest bunch of bunglers to fund a major motion picture. That's something to appreciate at any rate.

Darnit, I was just coming to post this lol.

I haven't been active on those boards in a number of years. Sometimes they came in handy for finding something, mostly it was just sad or hilarious to see the awful posts that cropped up. I'm not sad to see it go, but there is a certain nostalgia that comes with watching another giant forum disappearing.

Apparently, part of the reason is because of how active their Facebook and Twitter pages are instead, which is odd. Just because your FB and Twitter pages are active doesn't mean you have to kill your old forums.

Looks like Sony has more problems then we thought. Andrea Wong, the president of the international TV branch of Sony Pictures, has quit.

I guess i'm in the minority here but this is a bigger blow to me than losing JPL.... With JPL i was losing a website but we had a backup plan and we can still keep it alive here. JPL closing was a big bummer but i still have you dedicated people around to keep the discussion going and the memories alive. With IMDB closing its forum i'm loosing my JP friends(on IMDB), my game of thrones friends, my walking dead friends and about 20 more groups. It's like i am loosing multiple websites i am emotionally invested in.

Every movie, director, actor etc has a discussion page specifically designated for it. How is Facebook going to replace that.... even reddit doesn't have that. IMDB also has the traffic for lots of topics and posts which keep things lively.

And yes there were trolls but there was so much more good than bad. Seeing an old movie and then going to its board to see messages from years ago feels like opening a time capsule. And some of the trolls could even be fun at times.

I hope we can overturn this decision or they backtrack later. I will never be using the site again without a forum. I am DEVASTATED by this news.

Edit: and i'm sorry if this is coming off harsh but i am a huge IMDB fan. I live and breath there. I'ts been a huge part of my entire life.

I'm really sorry about this. I wasn't a member there, but I have a rough idea about how big of a site it is and giving how much of the old timers felt about how JPL going down, I have a rough idea of how IMDB closing its forums is for you. My advice is to get as much of their FB/Twitter/Reddit accounts so that you can still keep in touch with them. I know it's not the same as going on here after JPL shut down, but at least it's something.

I realize that the controversial film 'A Dog's Purpose' has not been addressed as of late. I think it's worth bringing up because this thing caused some serious damage to Amblin Entertainment's reputation; I went to the Facebook page for Amblin and literally every post is littered with angry posts attacking the company, shouting variations of "we won't watch your movies again" and that sort of thing. Most of them posting the same bloody posts over and over again, even on posts that have nothing to do with 'A Dog's Purpose'. I went to the La La Land soundtrack post, and hardly anyone was talking about Jurassic Park, just the stupid dog movie. For all in tents and purposes, Amblin's good PR is dead.

edit: I am aware that the TMZ footage was manipulated and showed two separate scenes stitched together, and it is very sketchy that whoever recorded this waited a YEAR before actually doing a damn thing about it. However, I have no desire to take sides in this matter, and the damage has already been done.

What I do want to talk about is this: how will this affect the Jurassic World sequel in the future?
Bayona's in an awkward position in that he is now directing a film that (we suppose) features a parable for animal abuse. And with the extremely touchy subject of that German Shepherd video, this could prove very dangerous for Universal and Amblin to then make a movie that addresses similar issues through the fictional lens of living dinosaurs. Possibly enough to undermine the franchise itself, especially since people are not as forgiving as we like to think we are.

I really like the looks of the new Jaegers, these are truly the best version of a live action Megazord we're likely to see in the near future. Since I doubt the potential financial (or indeed creative) success of the Power Rangers reboot will convince the creative staff at Saban and Lionsgate to redesign them to a more faithful iteration that would look great in CGI. Heck, the Jaegers are much closer in spirit to the G1 Transformers than the actual live action Autobots and Decepticons.

I really hope 50 Shades Darker withers an dies at the box office, and that any lad with a girlfriend who wants to see that schlock convinces her to go see LEGO Batman instead!

I really believe that this movie franchise is made for horny teenage male teens/college men and women who haven't had sex.

Meanwhile at the circus known as Sony Pictures...It's getting sued by the financier of 'Wild Oats'.

Id like to think 50 Shades is more catered towards women who like erotic fiction.

I wasn't sure if this should be here or the TV show thread, but nobody's going to mind if I post this here.

Dredd 2 will happen, but as an animated show or as a Netflix TV show.

This "family saga" approach to the Avatar sequels does sound immediately more interesting than a Dances With Wolves/Pocahontas sci-fi redo. I actually do look forward to seeing how the return of Avatar to cinema unfolds, see if people respond to the idea of this franchise returning having seemingly removed the one thing that most movie-goers weren't wowed by; the familiar plot.
