Yep, it's time for this! For anyone who loves horror films, come here and talk about them!

To start off, my favorite horror film is probably The Exorcist III. While the ending is lacking due to studio interference, it's a great adaptation of the actual sequel to The Exorcist, and was director by the original author, William Peter Blatty.

As for current horror, The Conjuring 2 is getting really good reviews: http://bloody-disgusting.com/reviews/3393330/review-james-wans-conjuring-2-surpasses-first/

I'm really looking forward to The Conjuring 2. The first had a lot of classic horror scares that just can't be beat! I also just saw a teaser trailer for this movie called The Woods, and it looks great. If you're a horror fan on Facebook, do yourself a favor and follow BlumHouse!

I forgot about The Purge, but Election Year looks great. I admit, I'm really trying to go to Universal Halloween Horror Nights again this year, and The Purge house last year was awesome.

James Wan Says There Could Be More Conjuring Sequels
http://411mania.com/movies/james-wan-says-there-could-be-more-conjuring-sequels/

Quote :

Variety reports that while on the red carpet for the premiere of The Conjuring 2 at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, James Wan hinted that there could be more sequels on the way.

Star Vera Farmiga seemed ready for another one (“Just ask me”) while screenwriters Chad and Cary Hayes said they “definitely have a third in mind.”

Wan added: “It depends on what happens this weekend. There could be many more movies because the Warrens have so many stories.”

Meanwhile, Patrick Wilson was still shocked by the success of the first film. He said when he took the role of Ed Warren, “I knew it would work, but not this well.”

The film opens on Friday.

Hopefully there's more of these because theyre good. Dang good.

I mean, there still hasn't been an official Amityville movie done with the Warrens as the main focus so maybe that can eventually happen. Also, has anyone seen the trailers for that new Amityville movie coming out?

I'm sort of turned off the whole Amityville thing. The original and even the remake are decent films, but the story surrounding them sucks, since it basically proved the Warrens as frauds, at least on this case, and there was so much crap behind it all.

I mean that's true, but Hollywood always finds a way to make things what they aren't. I'm sure for the sake of what could be the Conjuring franchise, they'll make the Warrens seem like they were framed or something. They're not gonna let facts get in the way of cold hard cash. Twisted Evil

The Conjuring 2: 7.5/10 -

Well I was pleasantly surprised by this one. The original is an ok film, I remember rating it like a 6. This one improved quite a bit.

I know they stretch the "true story" aspect quite a bit, but when they started with the Amityville haunting, a proven hoax, I was less than enthused. The story shifts however and things get interesting as this is based around the Enfield haunting. For the most part, it worked well, actually subverting several moments I was sure would result in some sort of jumpscare. Although there is one moment where even my already stretched believability was lost that involved the "crooked man" rhyme, and actually made me laugh a little at the ridiculous scene.

Even still, there's some great scares, some fun moments, and a decent story here. Given the track record of the real Warrens, I can't say I believe this case was real either, but I do believe in the paranormal and hope some real proof comes to light someday. As a film though, it's pretty good. See it.

The Crazy Story Behind the Next ‘Conjuring’ Spinoff…’The Nun’!

Quote :

James Wan‘s The Conjuring is one of the most successful horror movies ever. It was such a smash that it revived our genre and brought it into the summer, once considered a death blow for horror.

It performed so well that Warner Bros./New Line Cinema quickly spun off the haunted doll, Annabelle, into its own franchise. It too was a booming success. With a sequel set to film this fall, and Wan’s The Conjuring 2 dominating the box office, again, the studio has set their sights on the next spinoff.

The worst kept secret is that Conjuring 2 opens with the Amityville Horror case, which led many to believe that it would be the next standalone franchise. But, with Dimension Films’ Amityville sequel set for release in January, and a handful of crappy ripoffs on the home video shelf, it appears Wan and the studio are going in a different direction…with THE NUN!

David Leslie Johnson, who co-wrote Conjuring 2 (and is working on A Nightmare On Elm Street for New Line), has been hired to pen what is being titled The Nun, reports THR. James Wan, who directed the Conjuring movies, and Peter Safran, who produced them, are reuniting to produce the spinoff.

Here’s the awesome backstory, which is going to blow your mind: What is noteworthy about the demon nun character is that she didn’t exist until about three months before Conjuring 2 opened as she was only added during last-minute reshoots.

Explains the site: The studio and Wan had a cut of the movie, which stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as paranormal investigators, in which the antagonist was a demonic figure with horns. The studio was ready to release that version but at the last minute, Wan was struck by a revelation. And so he came up with a new concept, a demon nun, which he pitched to New Line execs. And even though the late-in-the-game change could have spooked some execs, they gave him their blessing.

The shoot took place in March, just three months before the movie was scheduled to open on June 10. Some of the changes were minor: the art piece that Wilson is painting was altered digitally as the horned demon made way for the demon nun. Some were more extensive such as a set-piece in which Farmiga watches in terror as a shadow crawls across the wall to line up with the painting and…

Lights Out director David F. Sandberg is currently developing Annabelle 2, which he tells us “will be the Godfather II of creepy doll movies.” Set for release on May 19, 2017, we’re told that the film’s protagonist is going to be a nun who is worried that her orphans are becoming prey to an evil entity. Could this nun tie into the story of The Conjuring 2 and its forthcoming The Nun spinoff?

‘Annabelle’ Sequel Will Be the ‘Godfather II’ of Creepy Doll Movies

Quote :

Even though Lights Out doesn’t hit theaters until July 22, we’ve already posted a review, and have shared a slew of interview bits with director David F. Sandberg.

Lights Out is Sandberg’s feature film debut, an adaptation of his award winning short film of the same name. What’s so exciting about the haunter is that it’s backed and produced by James Wan, the director of The Conjuring, Saw, Insidious and this summer’s blockbuster The Conjuring 2. The duo apparently mixed like peanut butter and jelly, which is why Sandberg’s next film is another collaboration with Wan: Annabelle 2.

While Sandberg won’t comment on the plot, we’re told that the film’s protagonist is going to be a nun who is worried that her orphans are becoming prey to an evil entity.

Sandberg did, however, tell us that he hopes to make the “Godfather II of creepy doll movies.”

I don’t think I can give too many details at this point but it’s not a continuation of the first film. That’s one of the many things that enticed me with the project, that it’s new story. Also the setting and the time period of this one is perfect for a horror movie.

The script is really good and I think that this is a sequel that will actually be better than the original. The ‘Godfather II’ of creepy doll movies as I like to call it.

New Line has massive confidence in this franchise, which began when The Conjuring destroyed all in the summer of 2013 (July 19) taking in over $300 million worldwide at the box office.

The Annabelle spinoff drew in nearly $250 million in box office revenue. Its sequel it set for release on May 19, 2017.

So I watched Sinister 2. Spoilers to follow:

Sinister 2 was...alright. The scares really were not there this time, and while it tried to spin what happened a bit differently, overall it just wasn't different enough. Combined with that lack of scares made it fall somewhere in the middle. It also had several unlikable characters that I guess you were supposed to hate, but I thought it detracted quite a bit, and one certain character was more or less just a character made to be hated, get the family out of the house, and then die so the audience got their gratification of him dying.

The basic plot: the cop from the first film is no longer a cop, and has been tracking down previous locations of families terrorized by Bagul, and burning them down to break the chain. He goes to burn another down but finds a mom and her two sons living there. The mom has left her husband and taken the kids and has temporary custody, but apparently their Dad is someone with a large business and he has some connection to everybody around, so they basically all work for him. Of course, the children that serve Bagul show themselves to the boys, and show them the films, in an attempt to gain another servant.

Several problems I had with this film included Bagul not showing up very often at all. He wasn't super prominent in the first film, but he was felt quite a bit. Secondly, the servant children get most of the scary scenes, and they are not scary. They also talk way more than I remember them in the first film, and it sort of detracts. Also, in the first film I felt the kids that ended up committing murders and disappearing I felt were more entranced by Bagul, and it wasn't just something they did because they wanted to. That doesn't happen here, with the kid that eventually becomes a killer really wanting to do it, and I never got (or forgot from the first) what, if anything, was promised to them.

The Dad is the character I mentioned above, and he's basically more evil to me in the film than Bagul is. He's shown beating his wife, beating his kids, threatening the main character with shotgun and beating him severely. As mentioned, you actually kind of enjoy when he dies, because you hated him a lot by that point. Also, the death films in this movie are far worse than the last film. There's some cool ideas, but since they are filmed on an old crank camera, the fact every one uses some CGI makes it stand out really bad.

There are some things I like. I liked some of the mythology, the idea Bagul is the boogeyman of legend and has been known of for centuries. I liked the bit with the radio signal. The main character is actually really great, and I wish they'd followed him up with a better film. The mom and the non-killer son are also pretty good, and feel like real people. Not to mention, the atmosphere is still really good. Even like I said the death videos in concept was good, but the execution was not done well.

Overall, Sinister 2 gets a 5/10 from me. It's average, not scary, and more of what we saw done better in another film.

I've heard The Witch is actually pretty terrible and reminds people of The Village which wasnt scary at all either

‘Friday the 13th’ Will Feature Jason and Pamela Side-By-Side!

Quote :

The upcoming Friday the 13th has everyone talking. The return of our favorite hockey mask-wearing mass murderer is big news no matter how you feel about the franchise as it’s been a long time since we’ve seen him stalk the shores of Crystal Lake. And as the weeks have been passing, we’ve been getting more and more information about how the movie is shaping and the path that it’s going to take, such as the idea that Aaron Guzikowski’s script would be an origin story, although now producer Brad Fuller is clarifying his words.

Talking with iHorror, Fuller explains:

Origin isn’t really the right word for this movie. The word “Origin” got out and everyone’s calling it an origin film now, but that isn’t exactly the direction we’re taking. It’s more of an alternate world that we’re creating for Jason – an alternate space, alternate reality – in this film. Yes, Pamela and Jason are together in this film, but this is the same Jason we all know and love. He’s Jason; he kills – he kills teenagers. We went down the origin route with the second Texas Chainsaw Massacre film, and I think when you go to deep into a character’s origin, the character stops being scary at some point. I’m not worried about demystifying Jason by revealing parts of his back story, which most of the fans are familiar with.

I absolutely adore that last line. I’m willing to bet that Fuller looked at all the frustration with people who saw BvS and complained, “We have to see Bruce Wayne’s parents die yet again? We all know this!” I know that’s what all my friends said and I’m right there with them.

“The story takes place between the late 1970s and the early 1980s,” continues Fuller, who adds, “There is a summer camp, and there are camp counselors.”

And while there have been rumors that Elias, Jason’s father, would appear in the film, Fuller is asking people to temper their expectations because things may not actually go that route.

“No, we haven’t decided whether or not Elias will appear in the film. Again, that was a comment I made, which was a response to a question about whether or not Elias would be a part of this film,” explains Fuller. “I said that including Jason’s father was an idea, a possibility, but it’s not at all a certainty that he’ll appear in the film. The main relationship is between Pamela and Jason.”

So, as always it appears that we need to bide our time. After all, there’s no point in getting up in arms when we haven’t seen even a single image from the film, right?

The new Friday the 13th is slated to come out in January 2017.

Absolutely love horror, it's an addiction of mine. And one of my favorite horror franchises ever is The Ring, which up until this year only has had two movies! When I heard about Rings being a possibility some years ago I got extremely excited but there has been so little info (trailers/posters/plot etc.) that up until now we haven't known much about it, which only added to the mystery and excitement! So who's excited for Rings?? Very Happy

EDIT: I see some people doing top ten horror movie lists, which is always hard for me because there are so many to choose from, but though I think I did such a list on JPL, here it is again (in no particular order):

-The Shining (quite possibly the best horror movie ever made and one of the best movies ever made, period)
-The Grudge (the scene with the stairs will always haunt me, simply heart-stoppingly terrifying)
-The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (runner-up for best horror movie. Dark, twisted, sick, brilliant!)
-The Ring (Samara. Nuff said. One of the scariest horror movie characters in history)
-The Evil Dead (Like Texas Chainsaw, this one is sick and brilliant at the same time)
-The Orphanage (hauntingly beautiful and scary. And yes, it was on my list long before Bayona was eyed for JW2)
-Insidious (modern-day classic, really creepy and scary once you enter The Further)
-The Conjuring (Brilliant, modern-day ghost story classic)
-The Woman In Black (beautiful, scary, creepy and different)
-Halloween (Fantastic, the original slasher and still the best of all slashers)

Oh hey, looks like every other Rob Zombie movie ever made. I think I'll pass on this one. Also it's kinda sad that the only roles his wife can get are in his movies. Says something about her as an actress.

Also why in the hell hasnt the trailer for Rings dropped yet? The movie comes out in October and we have nothing in terms of a trailer or any info of any kind, it's kinda unsettling.

In terms of a top 10 in horror, this isnt in order but why not:

A Nightmare on Elm Street
Hellraiser
Halloween
Friday the 13th
Child's Play
Resident Evil
Silent Hill
The Conjuring
Insidious
A House on Haunted Hill

Had no idea this was a prequel. Supposed to be attached to The Shallows so we should get a trailer online over the weekend.

So it's a guest review, but Bloody-Disgusting posted a review of "Sadako vs. Kayako".

i'm not much of a horror fan, but i've been trying to broaden my horizons lately, though not as much for films--it's mostly been video games (namely Deadspace and Resident Evil 4) and a bit of literature (some of Lovecraft's stories and Metro 2033, with some others on my to-read list or that i hope to get sometime). though i did see Apollo 18 on Netflix a while back (i think i prefer the found-footage type of horror as opposed to slasher flicks) and i've got Silence of the Lambs, The Exorcist, and Carrie on my queue.

I actually quite liked Ouija. Would be very interested in seeing this prequel.

Drastically different from the first one. Not sure how to feel on it.
