Mortal Kombat (2021)

I am *really* looking forward to this. Been an MK fan for a long time so seeing another movie attempt will be nice to see.

So I saw the new film and concerning the proper representation of the mythos and the general feeling of it, I consider it pretty loyal with modifications for an adjusted or parallel timeline in respect to the games. I didn't have unreasonable expectations for the film when I went in (you can't expect Citizen Kane from something like this) and while I was hoping for a bit more I felt satisfied with what I saw.

One thing I want to note is that with all these newer films there's going to be a setup for a sequel and this one is no different. So the setup is there for more films in the future and I hope we get it (sounds like we will). I also saw people complaining about the characterizations for Cole who is an original character and honestly I think they're baseless because of the setup potential for the other movies. It's one of those things you're going to see realized and developed as time goes on and we get more films. Also, there is a line in it that would suggest that even though certain characters died in the film, they'll be back. One thing I liked is that both Scorpion and Sub-Zero both actually speak their respective languages (Japanese and Chinese) and the actors cast for the roles are in fact the nationalities/ethnicities they are supposed to be in the first place.

All in all, I give the film about an 8 or even 8.5 out of 10. Oh and one other good thing? Proper use of "Flawless victory" which I deeply appreciated!
