So I watched "The impossible" last night. Gave me lots of hope in our new director.

Don't worry this is in the JW2 section not by mistake lol.
I didn't love the film but I was extremely impressed by it and I felt it had a unique feel. Although the movie is of course extremely dark and not anything to smile about, I thought it was beautifully filmed. Like the paper lantern scene on the beach, or the location they are in. It all looks so authentic and I found the cinematography to be gorgeous. It is done by Óscar faura who is on board for this movie. So I think we can expect JW2 to look quite stunning.
I also wanted to say I was extremely impressed by how dark the film was overall and that it got a PG-13 rating. It had a few scenes of nudity and plenty of blood. So I'm wondering if JW2 could definitely be much darker and serious when it comes to death?
Anyway I really recommend you guys watch the film and I think it made me more excited and hopeful for JW2. If our script is good Bayona alteast knows how to direct a film, and not in a mainstream "blockbuster" way.
I have not seen a monster calls yet. I think it's the only film by Bayona I haven't seen.

I like Bayona so far, because of how he stood his ground and fought Universal for more animatronics. That alone shows me that he gets what JW did wrong and how he's going to improve things with this movie. Hopefully, he had enough power to force some script changes as well.

wait what? the impossible is pg13? wow if that is true then he got away with a lot. This movie nearly made me cry and that scene in which we see the wave first come in, is really good. I'm actually not a fan of the color tint used in the film but i bet the cinematography will rock in jw2.

That scene where you hear the low ominous rumbling, then see birds flying in a panic, then wee the trees in the distance being ripped down as everyone waits in fear as to what is approaching and then the wave burst over the wall. That scene was so well directed. I can imagine a scene just like that in Jurassic World 2 but replacing the wave with a Dinosaur or something.

Absolutely. Loved that scene.

Exactly. I went in wondering about the PG-13 and how it could possibly be appropriate for that kind of movie, but was stunned with what they got away with. But honestly this is how PG-13 should be done imo. There are far too many films now a days that get slapped with an R way too easily.

Trust me after seeing The Orphanage, The Impossible & A Monster Calls we have absolutely no reason to worry in regards to the direction of this sequel. It will be A+, we just have to hope Colin & Derek have written a good script that's an improvement on JW...

Or at the very least that Bayona was given the green light to make changes as he saw fit.
But yeah, the tension is this scene right before the wave hits it pretty incredible, made even more impressive by the fact that the "tense" part of the scene (before the wave hits) only lasts a few seconds.

I really want the best film possible. Derek has had some shaky films recently such as Monster Trucks and Kong. I enjoyed Kong, but I didn't love it and there were some scenes that didn't work for me. Characters other than John C. Reilly were kinda boring. I loved Jurassic World, but I'm aware how thin some of the characters. Hope that all improves with this one. Like others, I have loads of faith in Bayona directing, though. So glad Colin brought him on board!

Colin & Frank did say in interviews last year, Bayona worked closely with him & Derek on the script & made small changes but that it was mostly the same story they pitched to him when he agreed to come on board.
