The name says it all.

Here's an interesting video about the end of Kelvin Trek and where Star Trek goes from here.

Supposedly Tarantino had an "idea" for an r-rated Star Trek movie, but somehow I don't think that'll ever happen...the last thing Paramount wants at this point is a film with less mainstream appeal.

I think Trek is going to stick with the CBS All Access series at this point...I'm interested in what they do with Picard, but I have up on "Discovery" part-way through season 1.

At this point, the lack of money is a much larger issue then that.

Kurtzman wants Star Trek to appeal to more children.

I'm not entirely against this, but just not under Kurtzman's watch.

That's what I meant...R-rated means less box office, most probably, compared to a lower rating.

It's difficult for me to see Trek going on in a significant way on the big screen. I'm interested to see what happens with Picard's show, but like Robotpo I also gave up on Discovery part ways through season 1. It's just so damn cold, way too linear for a Star Trek series, way too fast paced, the characters are unlikable and all seem to hate each other, the "political commentary" lacks any subtlety, and if you miss just one episode you'll have no clue what's going on by the time the next episode starts. I tried with it, too. I really did.

Last night, I finally saw The Wrath Of Khan.

WOW! One of the best movies I've ever seen.

The acting is great and the sets, SPX, and action scenes are tense. Ricardo Montalban really steals the show as Khan whenever you see him. At times, I really thought that he would succeed in destroying the Enterprise.

Even though he failed to kill Kirk, in a way his actions resulting in Spock's death did hurt Kirk in way he never had been hurt before, so in some ways, Khan got a fair amount of revenge. That said, the film does end in fairly upbeat way, that Spock's death was not in vain and even in death, new life gets born.

The only small downside is that I wish a bit more time talking if Project Genesis had happened, but the movie is more then good enough for me to overlook that.

One of the greatest sci-fi films ever made, and probably the most well acted film of Willam Shatner's career.

Indeed. Shater's famous KHAAANNN! alone is worth it, but him reacting to Spock dying/death is really touching, as is the ending where he starts to make up with his son.

I plan to get more ST movies. Thanks for all the tips. Very Happy

The infamous "KHAAAAAAAN!!" is great, no doubt, but it was Kirk's eulogy that really sealed the deal for me. In particular how Shatner's voice cracked as he was delivering it.

And yeah, no problem. I'm always happy to help introduce people the the awesomeness that is Trek.

Indeed, I basically tried Trek after an...ugly period in my personal life. It was the one TOS episode with Apollo. I was interested and thought "Hmm. This is interesting." Then I saw an episode of TNG and enjoyed it. I saw my first episode of DS9 in December. While I don't see it as much as I'd like, I watch it as much as I can.

I just wish that it had a movie like TOS and TNG did.

A DS9 film could be cool, but at the same time I kinda think it would be doing a bit of a disservice to the show. TOS and TNG were similar in that their stories were mostly encapsulated into singular episodes, or at the very most a multi-episode arc in the case of TNG. DS9, by contrast, had a far more linear form of storytelling that stretched out over several seasons. If there were to have been a DS9 film, it would have likely involved the Dominion in some way, as that was the major arc of DS9, but to have the entire story compressed into a single film may have made it feel kind of rushed when compared with the long, drawn out Dominion storyline from the show. I just don't think it would stack up to the show overly well, as it wouldn't have felt nearly as big or fleshed out in comparison.

^^ The problem with a DS9 movie is that it would take so much time/effort to undo the ending of the series, and agreed, it would be a disservice to the series finale which very much left us on a melancholic note, while suggesting that the story would go on.

Rhed, if you want more Project Genesis, have you watched "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock"? A lot of the film takes place...well, I won't spoil it, but it's very much a sequel to Khan. It's not nearly as good as the second film, but it's underrated IMO. Star Trek 2, 3 and 4 make up a kind of Kirk & Spock trilogy.

I saw 'Way Of The Warrior' Part 2 of Deep Space 9. I really do like this version of Star Trek. That being said, considering how Roddenberry was such a pacifist, I really think that he would have had a heart attack if he saw this show. Even more so considering how he was against how TOS movies had a more military angle from Wrath Of Khan to The Undiscovered Country.

For all the long time Trekkies out there, the Prime timeline really isn't talking about the true/original Star Trek timeline. It gets talked about at 23:00 in this very interesting You Tube video.

I meant to get this posted a few weeks ago, but for some reason I never got around to it.

I saw Star Trek 3: The Search For Spock. I actually liked it and consider it a solid movie.

I really liked how this movie reminded us how the Klingons were the bad boys of the Galaxy while making them human enough, via the Klingon commander getting sad after his dog died. The Genesis planet going to hell was a nice, if sad, touch of how man can't play God very well.

True, it was a notch below Wrath Of Khan, but that's not the fault of the movie or the people who made it. It's a solid movie in it's own right.

The Search for Spock is a pretty decent film in it's own right. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country. Probably my 3rd favorite Trek film behind TWOK and First Contact.

Star Trek: TMP and Star Trek 5 are kinda poop. Give them a watch if you're really getting into Trek in a big way, but if you're more casual about it, there's not much reason to watch them. Not only are they not very good, but their stories are standalone and don't really have any sort of effect on the lore.

A lot of what ends up on Youtube is pure rumor/clickbait, but with Kurtzman involved, I'm not expecting much (despite the involvement of Michael Chabon, an amazing author who won the Pulitzer!)

Midnight's Edge has a proven history: Fant4stic, GB 2016, the DCEU, Star Wars, and now Star Trek.

Speaking of which, it looks like the Picard series has been delayed.

D.C. Fontana, writer of many episodes of Star Trek, The Original Series, TNG, and DS9 has died at the age of 80.

She also wrote episodes for Beast Wars and Bonanza, but Star Trek is what she's most famous for.

René Auberjonois, who played Odo on Star Trek: Deep Space 9, has died at the age of 79.
