Jurassic Park self-insert RPG planning thread

i've had this idea in the works for a long time, now, but i thought i'd open a thread to discuss exactly how it should look when i finally make it since there are a few different possibilities concerning the final product. i've mentioned this once or twice before, but for those who don't already know, i want to remake my first successful RPG from back on JPL that i made literally over ten years ago, now. it was (and the new version will be) a self-insert RPG where participants (are supposed to) play as themselves in a re-enacting of the events of the Film Canon, using aliases rather than our real names (in the original, it was our usernames) and using mainly all the species from the Film Canon (the Missing Nublar species all explicitly appeared in the first one, for example)

the other big change was that, instead of being set in 1993 (and then 1997, 2001), the original was set in 2006 when i made it, and then 2010 and 2014, with a fourth installment being in 2018 (JW was still in development hell at the time). with that in mind, for the eventual final product, should it be set in our current contemporary period, or still take place in 1993 (or possibly 1990 based on the novel) since we'll be using fictionalized versions of ourselves, anyway?

one of the bigger things i want to determine before making it is about the dinosaurs themselves. not so much the species list--all the key dinosaurs from the films and novels will be there, no questions asked, plus some others--but should they be in the style of scientific knowledge at that time, or should they conform to more recent discoveries? (e.g., should they have feathers and so on?)

on a smaller scale:

• should Isla Nublar have 15 species like originally, or should it be expanded to 20-30? (it'll only be in increments of five)
  
• should more events of the Novel Canon be taken into account for this RPG? (it's already a separate canon to begin with)
  
• should there be an intermediary installment of some kind between the eventual JP/// and JW versions?
  

I'm way more of a novel canon fan, though I do love film canon (Just not as much).

- Species, well its cool if you introduce them slowly as its not fun too have too many right off the bat in most cases.
- I love novel canon, its my preference
- Perhaps, depends what the ideas would be about the time between JP/// and JW.

a hypothetical fourth one between JP/// and JW would require alot of discussion--the only one i have in mind at the moment is a remake of an "Operation Atlantis" idea that i attempted where Sorna has started sinking into the sea (rather like Skull Island) and the characters go there to document the dinosaurs in the short time remaining, but that's rather silly  

any opinions on if the dinosaurs should be updated with feathers and the like?

I'm anti-feather as the movies and novels neither have feathers. However, outside the Canon I'm pro-feather. Really I'll be ok with either but I prefer without feathers.

yeah, that's pretty much my opinion concerning JP, too, which is why i'm conflicted about if they should have feathers in this reimagining (mind you, not every single one of them would have feathers--just the coelurosaurs)
