Today I learned.. (Interesting historical or personal facts/stories) to share.

Hey Mods . I hope it's alright if I post this thread. Let me explain why I think it's a cool idea and if not you guys can take it down. On Reddit there is a subreddit called today I learned where people post extremely interesting facts or stories that aren't well known, just things that were recently discovered or flat out mind blowing stories/facts.

So I thought we could use a thread where if we learn something cool or interesting about the world(or even in our day to day life we could share it!).

Example. Today I leaned that a man survived a boat sinking in 1871, he was traumatized of course. 40 years later he was able to overcome his fear and sail again..... only to end up boarding the Titanic and sadly perishing. Wow, talk about a depressing way to realize that sometimes a crazy twist of fate can punish courage.

TIL Eminem's song "Lose Yourself" was the first rap song to win an Oscar for Best Original Song, but Eminem did not even watch the awards because he did not think he stood a chance at winning. Instead, he fell asleep watching cartoons with his daughter.

Buzz Aldrin's mother (named Marion Moon) shot herself before his lunar flight because she didn't know if she could cope with his impending fame. He then fell into depression and alcoholism after his flight.
