Cool. I do wonder how long it will be and whether or not it will play any actual role in the continuity of the franchise. Probably just be a one-off story tho.

IMO it'll likely be tied into the move-verse, as canon/continuity are taken so seriously these days.
I like the figures/designs and the title, sounds like a Western! I'm looking forward to the short film.
However, it figures Universal/Amblin would finally start adding to the franchise's expanded universe now that they only have the rights for one more film!

Judging purely from the information we have, my guess is that it'll be 2-4 minutes long, and it'll be about that Allosaurus and Nasutoceratops fighting on a steep cliff on Isla Nublar (maybe right before the volcano eruption, like that Jurassic World: Blue VR game). Basically, a CGI version of Phil Tippett's Prehistoric Beast.

"Black Rock" sounds like a human settlement to me, not a random location on Nublar...IMO on the mainland as an epilogue to FK; at least I hope so, I want something that adds to the story, not just a bunch of dinosaur effects.

Agreed. It sounds like something you'd find out west, in Colorado or Wyoming.

I retract this statement. It turns out there is in fact a Big Rock, Illinois, only 25 miles from me.

The Allosaurus sculpt for the Big Rock toys does look infinitely better than the one we got from the previous FK Roarivore release. I'll miss the roaring features of the initial one, the dual attack thing is fun though and this sculpt makes the likeness of the animal more appealing. I am happy with a lot of Mattel's releases at this point. Just distribution of the Legacy line through Target leaves a lot to be desired.
As for the feature, I'm hoping it gets a DVD release of some kind like the LEGO features or put on Mattel's YouTube since they're doing the short. I probably will skip out on seeing it in the theater given I'm not a fan of the Fast and Furious movie series.

Yeah, at the very least it should be included with JPVI if it doesn't have its own standalone DVD. Netflix/straming services aren't my cup of tea, either. Either way I'll probably see it in the drive-in if I go when Fast & Furious is showing.
I have mixed feelings about the allosaurus toy. I like the color and skull shape, but I think the original sculpt is more in-proportion. Also not a fan of the spines, but if it's based on what we'll see in-film it looks promising.

It's officially premiering this Sunday, September 15th, on FX!
It revolves around a family of four who encounter dinosaurs in Big Rock National Park some time after FK.
Tomorrow entertainment website Collider will have an interview with Colin Trevorrow and some pictures from the new short film.

I don't see it on the line up for FX on Sunday, but JW is there and I assume it will air during that.

I've heard guesses between 5 minutes (yuck) to up to 30 minutes utilizing separate commercial breaks ala The Walking Dead shorts.

Here's a sample of Amie Doherty's work. She's the composer that's going to be doing Battle At Big Rock.
Gotta say, I like what I hear in this track. If she can compose this level of work for Battle At Big Rock I'd say she'll make a welcome addition to the franchise.

I'm sure people will disagree but 8 minutes is acceptable for something that's supposed to be a short film.

I don't disagree, but still I would have liked something in the 20 minute range, like something you'd see as a singular 30 minute episode. I'm not saying you can't tell a story in 8 minutes. In fact, I can respect a director that can work with that little amount of time. I've seen plenty of great shorts told in 5 minutes. I think, perhaps, I'm just being greedy.

Extremely curious what the pace of the story will be, and if anyone will be eaten.

Apparently TLW theme will be making it's return in Battle at Big Rock.

If it's set in the Redwoods, then that makes sense.

Definitely looking forward to the short being online after it airs on FX tonight. I do know all of us over at Jurassic-Pedia are gonna need to get the relevant entries together too. I'm sure we'll be able to step forward on that.
One other thing is that I have nothing against Tyrannosaurus obviously, but I have to admit that I like to see the Allosaurus featured as the villain for the short. I think with Rex having the spotlight constantly people forget about the other theropods that aren't it and Velociraptor.

It's nice seeing another large theropod in the spotlight for a bit. Might not work as well for a full film, but for a short like this, I say bring it on.
Now, if they could just do something about that Allosaurus design...

For a short like this I definitely think it helps massively to use something different from what we always get mostly. Admittedly, I do wish people would quit blaming the Spinosaurus for the problems with JP3 though as it is strictly a symptom and by product of the problems with JP3's production and not the cause. I think one good thing with Big Rock coming is that it is going to have a TLW vibe to it too, at least when it comes to musically, from what I understood too. I hope this is a great proof of concept for a live-action series of some kind though.
As for the Allosaurus design I'm not too bothered by it myself. All the JP dinosaurs have a more stylized design so Universal has a marketable product. Do you mind sharing what your issue with it is? Supposedly it's going to be a lot different from the Allos we got in FK if the toy and the renders of the animals from Jurassic World Alive are anything to go by.

I've seen the updated design floating around on Twitter, and obviously in toy form. While I definitely prefer it to the design in FK, the head is way too square-ish for my taste. I don't think the limbs look long or powerful enough either. I appreciate the change in color scheme, the extended crests and and the little spikes added, but the overall body design and head sculpt is still a miss for me. I would have rather they used the Hasbro Dino Showdown Allosaurus or the Papo Allosaurus as the template for the proportions this time around, continuity be damned.

Oh yeah, definitely the Papo or Dino Showdown Allosaurus physical characteristics is significantly closer to accuracy for the animal than the FK design or even the BR design. Thanks for explaining, I see what you mean and I definitely agree with your sentiments.
