The winner of the 2017 Iditarod is Mitch Seavey, who is now a 3 time winner. At the age of 57, he is also the oldest person to win the dog sled race.

I don't expect anyone here to care but:
The season finales for Skeleton and Bobsleigh World Cups will be at Pyeongchang this weekend, which I'm very excited for. Well for Skeleton primarily. But more importantly, it's the first time they have really been able to test for Winter Olympics of next year, which will be held at the same place. Luge already was here but that doesn't really interest me that much. The track seems "OK", about as interesting as Lake Placid probably.

The Detroit Red Wings defeats the Jersey Devils 4-1 to close out Joe Louis Arena in style.
Thanks for the memories, Joe. You weren't the prettiest, but by God, you were one the best and had a personality of your own. We'll all miss ya.

Alonso to drive in the Indy 500, skipping Monaco GP www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/128926/alonso-to-race-in-2017-indy-500
Like many others, when I saw this in the morning, I was shocked beyond belief. Mainly because McLaren-Honda allowed it (okay technically they are sort of there in ICS as well), but because he had never really talked about the 500, only Le Mans. Which is something he still is planning to do later, when possible. I'd bet on next year now already. Exciting times.
The hype has now calmed down, only #24 in Google Trends, but it was #1 for long time this afternoon https://trends.google.com/trends/?hl=en

Former New England Patriots Tight End Aaron Hernandez committed suicide in his prison cell after being acquitted of 2 murder charges while serving a life sentence for one he was found guilty of.
What a sad story his life was. He had all the talent in the world and he wasted all of it.

Ball debuts shoe line; main pair to cost $495
His shirts? 50 dollars. You have to be extremely high to pay absurd amounts of money for generic clothing with a logo on it.

Bobsleigh athlete and Olympic champion dies of unspecified reasons at age 37 http://edition.cnn.com/2017/05/06/sport/olympic-champion-bobsledder-dies/index.html
I'm really not as much into bobsleigh as I'm into skeleton, and even when I watch bobsleigh it's always the women's competition, so I wasn't particularly aware of his presence. I might have seen him in the teams competitions in world championships but that's it. Regardless though, RIP, it's a loss to the community, IBSF and everybody who knew him.
Meanwhile Fernando Alonso's wednesday Indycar/oval debut at IMS got over 1,4 million views, which was pretty encouraging. I don't think the ratings on ABC will be particularly higher come race day at the end of the month, but international ratings and attention surely will boom to new spheres.

Makes me wonder if his legal team told him to do this
That or he was afraid that the other prisoners would get to him first. Regardless, I really feel bad for the victims families in this case. Justice was served and then taken away by a dumbass legal loophole.

Ya know...with the run the Orioles are making so far this year (I know, I probably just jinxed the hell out of them by saying this), they very well may have the team that wins it all....we just need to trade for some starting pitching in July for the love of god.

That was one amazing Indy 500, even better than 2014 in terms of overtakes and as exciting finale as in 2011 and 2016. And whoa all the drama.
Too bad that in contrast to GM, Honda screwed up with reliability this year, basically hindering Andretti team and especially costing Alonso everything in a bittersweet blowup. But Takuma-san winning makes up for it.
Also glad Dixon walked away unharmed from that airborne
