Misconceptions you had about the Jurassic series Empty
PostSubject: Misconceptions you had about the Jurassic series   Misconceptions you had about the Jurassic series Icon_minitimeThu Jun 16, 2016 5:09 pm

Here a thread where you can post your misconceptions you had about the Jurassic films.
I luckily had some of the best from JPL thread saved in a note, so here some (I don't know the author of many of them) :

- When Malcolm said "Dino droppings" when talking about the feces, I thought he meant the dinosaurs fell out of the sky, and that was how they had dinosaurs on the island.

- When I was younger I thought Nedry stole the Embryos because he was simply evil and wanted to destroy Jurassic Parks future.

- When I was little and watched the movie in the theaters I always thought the gatekeeper's name that gets eaten was named "Shooter". I thought Muldoon was just yelling out his name as he was being attacked.

- Oh, also, I used to think that when the Kirbys shout "please don't", after the you-know-what scene, they were directing to the Spinosaurus. Took me a while to notice the cut.

- I once thought Dieter was Grant.

- In TLW, just after ingen arrives on the island and invades the Game Trail, when Peter Ludlow asks Roland Tembo where he is going as he walks off into jungle, I thought his response was "To collect my pee, Mr. Ludlow, to collect my pee."

- Did not know that Peter Ludlow and Ajay were different people.

- Other misunderstanding was after Grant shoots at the raptor coming through the glass, the camera cuts to Hammond screaming "GRANT!!"... always that he was saying "DON'T!!" as in, no don't shoot my babies! Which after reading the novel that line would be more his character.

- At the start of the first film where Dodgson hands Nedry the bag full of cash, I never knew it had 750k inside it and always assumed it was just a really nice bag that Nedry wanted lol

- When I was younger, I thought Hammond was Nedry's dad! This was because Nedry says, "Thanks dad" when he and John are arguing.

- I used to think that the mud that falls all over the can when it falls out of Nedry's jacket was Dino poop.

- "What species is this?"
"Uh, it's a Velociraptor."
"You've red raptors?"

- Always misheard "jet standing by at Chateau" from Hammond in the first movie in Montana as "jet-slamming bio-chotto!" and figure it was some britishism I didn't understand.

- I remember I thought the Dr. Malcom from JP1, and the Dr. Malcom from TLW were two different people.

- Is it just me, or does Malcolm look taller in the 2nd movie?

- I used to think malcom was a rockstar in jp 1.

- In TLW, when Tembo says ''He didn't make it'' I thought the bull Tyrannosaurus had died from adrenaline shock or something. Took me long to realize the T.rex was fine and Ajay was dead.

- I always thought Genarro geniunley had to go to the bathroom rather than trying to save himself

- I always thought the snake slithering by the Raptor's head in JP1 was going to bite it's eye.

- During the 'Raptors in the kitchen' scene, when Tim is hiding behind a cupboard or something, he knocks a ladle which falls on the floor. I always thought the ladle was covered with soup or something, which was why the Raptor was licking it.

- I used to think Cathy got killed by the Compys.

- I legitimately did not know until I was like a teenager that Ludlow was on Isla Sorna. I swear I thought that was a completely different character with the hunters.

- When I was like 3, I thought Ellie became a villain because she turned the electric on while Tim was on the fence.

-  I just remembered I thought Malcolm was a robot because I had no idea what a chaoitician was.
I thought he was a prototype because Hammond said they would have to get used to him...

- As a kid, I always thought the pelicans in the end of JP were escaped pterosaurs.
I then went through a period of time when I thought they were the endangered condors hammond and malcom debated about.

- And when Grant is telling Ellie to put up the door locks, I used to think he was just informing everyone in the room that the door locks.

- I thought Nedry caused the Thunder to start by clicking a button on his computer.

- When I was a kid I used to think the Raptor who eats the cow was the same baby Raptor who's in Grant's hands during the previous scene, already grown up.

- I used to think Peter Ludlow in some way was emotionally attached to the baby T-Rex, since during the final act he persists asking about him and ordered not to shoot at him.

- When in TLW Malcolm asks Tim and Lex if it's everything okay and they answer "not exactly", I used to think they were referring to the fact their granpda John Hammond was tired and old in his bed.

- in a encyclopedia I had at home there was a JP Raptor pic at the voice "dinosaur". I didn't see JP yet at that time, and I used to think that was a real photo to a real dinosaur taken million years ago by someone.

- In JP, after Grant discovers the broken dinosaur eggs, and then sees the footprints of the baby dinosaurs, saying "Life found a way," I used to think he was saying, "Well I found the way," thinking he was referring to "the way" back to the visitor's center and thus safety.

- The Lost World.
Malcolm and Sarah "Where's the baby?"
Ludlow "In a safe place"
Malcolm "Where is this place?"
Then we see T-Rex walking and coming to the house with the kid who says "There's a dinosaur in the backyard".
Basically, I used to think the "baby" was the kid and that the safe place was his house.

TLW:
"Hey! Roland! Roland, Roland! Where do you think you're going?"
"To collect my pee, Mr. Ludlow, to collect my pee."

I had that one, too.

I don't know if this counts. But as a kid I thought TLW was a pretty highly regarded movie (critically) and I thought that atleast most people liked JP3. I was pretty shocked to see how harsh the critics were on TLW, because as a kid I viewed it as a classic.

Oh, here is a huge misconception about the actual first movie that was pointed out to me on JPL. The death of Nedry. When Nedry goes to tie the cable around the tree he leaves his jeep door wide open. When he climbs in the jeep after being spit on we see that Dilo is in the car with him! I had always assumed that this was a second Dilo that had come across the jeep and had hopped in lol. That was my head canon. I had no idea that it was only 1 Dilo in that scene(or at least that's how everyone else is taking it).

So now you can all laugh at me for thinking JP3 is good and thinking it was more than one Dilo Razz

Same. I didn't have any real concept of being financially underrated.
Quote :
- I once thought Dieter was Grant.
For the longest time I thought the same because of their similar hairstyles, or that they simply replaced the actor for Grant because sequels do that a lot. Then he died and I was legitimately pissed because I liked Grant a lot. Suffice to say, I was very alleviated when I finally realized they were two separate characters.

To be fair, it isn't easy to understand what he's saying, even with subtitles.
Quote :

At one point I was like this too.
Quote :

Goldblum did change his appearance quite a bit. He's a lot tanner with shorter hair and no glasses, and he does appear taller/lankier. He looks like he's from a different ethnicity in TLW. It took some self-convincing to believe it was the same actor.
Quote :
- I thought Nedry caused the Thunder to start by clicking a button on his computer.
Same! This bugged me as a kid. I just always assumed the park had some kind of automated weather system and Nedry had screwed with it to mask his escape.

With his accent, it does sound like he says "I've found the way."

I laughed way too much at some of those, owenpratt! (especially "jet-slamming bio-chotto"... I think we should absolutely make that into a phrase).

For years, I thought that it was Nedry (or "the dude from Seinfeld;" I didn't know the characters in the movie at all) who died on the toilet. Didn't know much else about the movie at all other than that he was in it, and someone got eaten on a toilet... guess I just combined it into one scene.

I don't know why, but there was a time when I used to think the guy with the parachute at the opening of JP3 (Ben Hildebrand) was the main character of one of the previous JP films.
I didn't even realize that the skeleton from a few scenes later was him.

I used to think that the fast shadow behind Amanda in the lab (right before the group goes downstairs) was a Pteranodon, and not a Velociraptor.

I know it sounds weird but, the first Jurassic Park film I saw was Jurassic Park 3. And back in that time, I used to think JP3 was an Indiana Jones film.

After seeing JP3, I wondered if Sam Neill was the same actor who played Indiana Jones, because of the way he rests on the plane with his hat forward over his face, just like Indiana Jones did in one of the movies.

I thought these same things. I also always used to think that it was the same island in all three films. And I used to think that the communications building in TLW was the original JP visitor center.

Also in TLW, when I was little, I thought Malcolm had eaten Cathy, because of the way how it cuts from her mother screaming to Malcolm yawning, as if she were screaming at him. Initially, I thought he was trying to swallow something. It also confused me how he got from the jungle to the subway in an instant. I thought it was like some kind of teleportation thing.

Funny enough, in the original script, Roland collected Tyrannosaurus rex urine in his canteen, which he threw on the doors to the Operations Building to keep the Raptors away.

-When Hammond says "It's right up your alley," I thought he was referencing the Alley Oop comics.
-I thought Nedry was legitimately trying to play fetch with the Dilo, not trying to get rid of her.
-I thought it was only male Raptors in the Worker Village pack. There were both genders.

Never had any misconceptions, as far as I remember as a kid, bc I really didn't pay attention to human characters back then. I remember to think that TLW was the first JP movie.

Somehow, when I was a kid, I thought the adult Triceratops from TLW, was the sick Triceratops from JP, which had gotten sick because she stood over the fire. I knew TLW was a sequel, but I believed that anyway.

This is a weird and funny memory I have lol

When I was a little kid and wasn't still very able to read everything, I was watching TLW and there was the scene when Kelly first enters the trailer and look at the map that signed "Las Cinco Muertes" with the various islands's names, including Isla Sorna.
In that moment I asked my father what there was written there on the map, and I don't know why he answered "Island of the dinosaurs". I believed that until a few years later, when I actually realized there wasn't written that, but "Isla Sorna", "Las Cinco Muertes" and things like that.

lol

Well this is going to be embarrassing but while editing JP3 for my fan edit, I just realized something for the first time in 16 years. When Grant and Billy are chatting in the plane on their way to Sorna, there's this bit of dialogue:

Billy
Alan, I wanted to thank you bringing me along on this.

Grant
Yeah, well the bones will still be there when we get back; that's the great thing about bones, they never run away.

For some reason I had always thought it meant that their bones (Grant's and others) would still be at island when all of this was over. Meaning that they would get killed and this was supposed to be some sort of sarcastic joke - and I always thought it was such a stupid ha-ha line. But now that I actually paid attention to the sentence and realized it had nothing to do with such, I feel so ashamed Razz Embarassed You just made more sense to me Dr Grant!

Anyway, as for childhood, I can't really think of many misconceptions I had. For JP, the Barbasol canister, I thought it had something to do for TLW when it got lost in the mud. Also when in the mr DNA sequence there's one shot of scientist doing whatever with the DNA, I thought he was Norman Atherton from the novel, you know the head of the project who died of cancer. I don't know why I made that link, and it wasn't until I read the novel year or two after seeing the film for the first time in late 90's.

And for TLW, I thought Ludlow in the suit at the mainland was different guy from Ludlow at the island Laughing Other than that I can't really think of any. Well other than believing the TLW infant Rex was the one that got killed in JP3, but I guess that's not really misconception but presumption/headcanon.

PostSubject: Re: Misconceptions you had about the Jurassic series   Misconceptions you had about the Jurassic series Icon_minitimeSun Feb 26, 2023 3:19 pm

I know this is an older thread but after reading through all the misconceptions, I had to join the site to add mine as I have had a couple misconceptions myself ever since the opening weekend in June of 1993.

1. When I was a kid, I thought the park employee who opens the helicopter door for Ellie and Grant had a huge red head. I'm not kidding. It became obvious later on that he was simply wearing a helmet.
2. A previous misconception stated "Always misheard "jet standing by at Chateau" from Hammond in the first movie in Montana as "jet-slamming bio-chotto!" and figure it was some britishism I didn't understand." Until I read this today, I thought the exact same thing!
3. Others have previously stated this one but I always thought Hammond was yelling through the telephone "DON'T!".

I know there were others but I really got a kick out of reading through this list! I'm glad I found it.
