Universal's 25th Anniversary for JP Empty
PostSubject: Universal's 25th Anniversary for JP   Universal's 25th Anniversary for JP Icon_minitimeFri Mar 17, 2017 8:06 am

Not overly surprisingly, Universal seems to have some sort of quarter-century anniversary special next year for Jurassic Park
http://jurassicoutpost.com/get-ready-celebrate-universal-pictures-confirms-jurassic-park-25th-anniversary/
http://licensing17.mapyourshow.com/7_0/exhibitor/exhibitor-details.cfm?ExhID=12696

I don't personally really care if there's another theater re-release or not, after all the previous run was just around the corner, but hypothetical new blu set would be nice if we finally got these:
A) Full commentary track(s)
B) If there 100% really aren't any deleted scenes as the general claim seems to be, then Spielberg should finally shed light on it and make it clear. At the very least, I'm sure they still have something (be it more behind the scenes or whatever) not shown to the public laying somewhere in the floor unused

Also Jaws has beyond amazing behind the scenes book called "Memories from Martha's Vineyard" which has even been included to some of the grander blu/dvd box set releases of the film, I so wish JP had one as well. I mean there are some old books floating around, but they are nothing compared to the Jaws one. Would be great to have similar companion piece, even though Jaws was pretty special case with it's relation to the island of Martha's Vineyard and it's people.

Anyway, new releases or not, it will be a milestone for JP. Personally, 1997 marks the year I saw the film for the first time, so next year will be more of a 21th anniversary for me, but still generally speaking the 25 years time span is always bit special.

Universal's 25th Anniversary for JP Empty
PostSubject: Re: Universal's 25th Anniversary for JP   Universal's 25th Anniversary for JP Icon_minitimeFri Mar 17, 2017 8:25 am

I hope this means big things beyond the first movie's 25th anniversary. It would be great to see a A 4K 2D blu ray with new special features (commentary, deleted scenes etc), a cinema re-release, and who knows - maybe even a classic toy line! Not to say all of these will happen simultaneously, but it would be great if they did.

Of course, Universal will still want to promote Jurassic Park 5/World 2/Era, whatever its going to be, so I really hope they BIG on this one. Now that Mattel owns the license, they could certainly take full advantage of the 25th anniversary. I also really want to see some artbooks for the series, the original Making-Of books for JP and TLW are still floating around online in small quantities and of course I do own them, but their presence on the art book market is not what it could be. And consider Jurassic World, regardless on how one feels about it there was a LOT of concept art that got a bit of online attention when they surfaced. Or imagine that combined with the artwork for Bayona's film?

TBH the current 1080p picture quality for JP is not that amazing, it's quite grainy and color balance is off, so if possible fixing that should be the priority whether or not 4K release is coming. TLW quality looks great in comparison so I'm not sure if they have many excuses for it being that way

I think the 3D version of JP looks amazing, and it's a shame people without 3D tv's cant enjoy it(even in 2D which is dumb).

If I got my wish there would be deleted scenes. And possibly an extended cut with the little bit of extra footage. I remember a member describing seeing the longer cut, and he was the same guy who posted that TLW deleted scene pic where the trex comes through the wall I believe(the kids house).

I think I saved a picture of his description of the extended cut.

He even had an email from someone confirming that some theaters did have an extended cut out for a short while. He could be lying but based on TLW pic, his detailed descriptions and the email I personally believe him. I don't believe this particular guy would go that far to make a fake email and trick the fanbase. And he was also the same guy to talk about that TLW scene that wasn't finished long before there was ever any proof or evidence.

Edit: yes I still have the pictures of his claim and I can post if anyone wants to see

Well obviously the only confirmed deleted shot is Sattler picking up the plant leaf as shown in the trailer, rest is still guesswork quarter century later. Few years ago Jurassic Cast podcast asked Dean Cundey and Ariana Richards if they remember shooting any scenes that were cut, and both said no. I mean they could of course lie, or at least in case with Ariana not honestly remember, but still.

Spielberg is known for not really opening to archives to everybody, but Jaws has plenty of deleted footage that was released.

See that's the thing. There is a deleted shot on film of Hammond on the stairs about the divorce and I believe that guy claimed this scene existed before that was found. We have some more stuff here.
http://jurassicpark.wikia.com/wiki/Jurassic_Park_Deleted_Scenes

And here are his claims

So no empirical proof or anything close per say. But I've always believed the guy after showing his credibility in other areas. And I personally just don't see him lying about it. That's just my personal conviction though. If it did exist it would be my ultimate wish to see it released.

Edit: and damn myself for not capturing the guys NAME! Damn it. I don't remember his screen name. I am kinda hoping someone here might.

Maybe he's right, maybe's he's not. Maybe he just pick unused bits from the original screenplay and assumed their absence meant deleted scenes without evidence. I certainly see bits of those there. That and seeing some production stills.

In any case I'm glad this exchange (which indeed is in the Koepp screenplay) is out as it's god awful and makes Sattler sound like an idiot. And if it's a joke (?) or some other weird remark, it doesn't make sense then either really.

Yeah. I'm definitely not pretending what I posted is fact, and I don't expect people to believe me.This is just my personal belief.  And you're correct about him being able to make stuff up from the script. But based on his track record and other stuff he was right about I just can't shake the feeling he's telling the truth(TLW deleted scene years before it was out and then we finally got a pic). I knew the user pretty well and I just don't see him lying. He was a long term user from my memory and never a troll. Huge JP fan. And maybe there was a Mandela effect Wink..........lol

I agree with you that it doesn't sound like jaw dropping or even great material. I think the original cut would be vastly superior, but if it exists I still want to see it. I have to. As a lifelong fan it would be groundbreaking.

And of course like someone else mentioned I'd love a 4K release.

Thanks for your response btw. I hope you and everyone else had a good weekend.

Maybe he wasn't lying, but just misinterpreted what he was looking into. It's hard to tell.

Yeah as I said in the opening posts, would be great if Spielberg or the producers finally came out clean on this and at least acknowledge if there's something more. And 4k or not, fix the grainy image of the film.

I have to admit, I have not seen the JP 3D re-release. In fact the only theatrical 3D release I ever saw was Edge of Tomorrow and that was enough for me, despite being a fine film itself. But from what I've heard JP was just a lazy transfer and the colors were off?

My weekend wasn't great, just like nothing really hasn't been for a long time ago as I'm kinda fighting depression, but my life it what it is. But thanks for the heads up! And hope your spring is going well

I don't prefer the 2D transfer disc, but the 3D transfer viewed in 2D is absolutely incredible imo. The colors are completely different from the 2D Blu-Ray as well as it having a new sound mix.

Some people prefer the standard  2D transfer though. But both definitely need to be made available to watch. I don't understand why a 3D disc locks you out of a film when it can be viewed perfectly in 2D. You just have to have the 3D equipment.

The original Blu-ray and new 3D blu-ray are both so different I'm not sure which you're talking about when you say the colors were off. It really depends on who you're talking to imo. I think the new edition has dramatically more natural colors while the old version appears more "warm" or "red". Idk that's how I see it anyway. But then some prefer the old version..... I like having both. But I do think the audio in the new one wins by a landslide. The T-Rex sounds so much better, and is ear piercing if you have a home theater.

I wish you had a 3D tv so you could compare.

I would love to see some deleted scenes from JP if any still exist (there are screenshots of things that were in the script but not in the movie, so there's a possibility...). I also wouldn't mind a theater release, as I never saw the movie on the big screen.

If this was in my area, I'd definitely go see it:

Universal's 25th Anniversary for JP Empty
PostSubject: Re: Universal's 25th Anniversary for JP   Universal's 25th Anniversary for JP Icon_minitimeWed May 24, 2017 12:10 am

We won't get a re-release with JW2 coming out that same year and we don't need it, it hasn't been that long since the 3D re-release.

However I do expect Jurassic Park to have a nice 25th anniversary celebration, you can see that easily just from marketing. The twitter account of Jurassic Park separated the JP and JW brands so now there are two twitter accounts for each brand. Why? One to promote JW2 and the other to promote JP 25th, we also have the new 25th anniversary logo. What do I think we'll be getting?

Mattel loves pandering to collectors, so we'll be getting 25th anniversary figures of the original film besides the regular JW toyline; Will the quality be any good? who knows but we'll be getting it at least. We'll be getting a new Blu-Ray to go along the new movie, this always happens whether it's a new bundle or whatever but it's a time to push more copies of the old movies when the new one comes out. I'm guessing it'll only be 25th anniversary of JP and TLW,///,JW will get shafted or at most be bundled with it. Will it be 4k? likely. Include all kinds of awesome stuff? who knows, depends how lazy they are. I think we'll also get random original JP merchandise along the new movie merchandise, anything from keychains to prop replicas. Depends on what companies decided to get the license but i do think they're selling the license for both JW and JP.

Grain is not necessarily bad, look at the example below
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_CpWdX0vhroA/TBoiCIArJkI/AAAAAAAACTQ/s1RMAqcgDPk/s1600/Predator+Blu-ray+Comparison.jpg

The 3D re-release is great, I saw it on 4D three times, I actually planned to see the movie once with 2D glasses to watch it in 2D but I enjoyed the 3D so much that I decided against that and always watched it in 3D/4D. It was much better done than Star Wars Episode I which also had a good 3D transfer. I don't usually like 3D transfer movies either. You missed out.
