One thing that I really really hope Jurassic World 2 does not do...

Is to once again act like The Lost World and Jurassic Park 3 do not exist.

Everyone remembers how in the months leading up to Jurassic World, it looked like JW was only going to focus on the events of Jurassic Park and this was confirmed when Colin Trevorrow said that the 2 sequels were being put to the side and the movie itself made no reference to almost anything that happened in TLW or JP3.

Now I am not saying they did this out of malice because Colin Trevorrow really seems like a nice well intentioned director who wants to please the fans but I do believe the production of JW believed the internet myth that nobody likes TLW or JP3 and decided to ignore them for that reason.

But now Jurassic World was a huge box office hit. So when JW2 was announced I really hoped that it would take some risks and have much more connections to TLW and JP3 like going back to Isla Sorna (or at least explaining it´s current status), having TLW characters return (Sara Harding? Nick? Kelly? Anyone?), having well known TLW dinosaurs return (Like Buck), or at the very least making references to the events of both movies like the San Diego incident and all that...

But so far...From what I have seen with all these news of Jurassic World 2 going back to Isla Nublar, Rexy probably returning and Blue probably returning...

I can not shake off this feeling that Jurassic World 2 will act like Jurassic Park and Jurassic World are the only 2 movies in the franchise, pay tribute to them and ignore anything and everything The Lost World or JP3 related.

I could not agree more.

With Ian Malcom being back for this, I wouldn't be surprised if he makes a passing comment about his time on Isla Sorna (though it depends on what role he even has).

That's a good point! They'd have to try pretty hard to get around that.

We hadn't had a movie in over ten years, they weren't going to have a movie with excessive continuity baggage and the events were just not important. They wanted a clean break and not explain stuff that had nothing to do with the plot. Remember that to a large majority of the people who saw the movie it was their first time ever watching a Jurassic film.

The viral websites for the movie clearly referenced the sequels and they released a new Trilogy set of the movies on DVD and BR with a slot for JW and later this same box set was re-released with JW. It was never called a soft reboot or anything of the like besides by unofficial sources which don't count, they just wanted to keep it simple.

Could they have sneaked in a short reference of Sorna in dialog that took 10 seconds with no further explanation? I do think that would've been very easy but oh well it didn't happen. But it's crazy to act like they are ignoring the sequels just because they don't make specific references and they weren't needed. Did Ellie seize to exist since she wasn't mentioned? Of course not, it's outlandish speculation without any basis. Now if Malcolm comes and mentions how after the original Jurassic Park incident he never got involved in any other trips or adventures then yeah the sequels just got retconned but y'all are panicking for a very unlikely scenario. I doubt JW // will make extensive references to the sequels but it'll at least be acknowledged by Malcolm in some type of way since it was a pretty big deal.

Yeah I would expect Malcolm to acknowledge it. They could say something like "Ive had to run from dinosaurs two different times in my life and you want me to get involved in a third?"

Honestly, where would they begin to reference the movie's so that it wouldn't be weird? The park had supposedly been running for a year or so, right? Why would they now, after all this time, begin talking about anything from JP3 or TLW?

According to some rumours, Sorna will at least be mentioned + I'd say there's a good chance Malcolm may mention something too.

It's not so much that, as we want a clear explanation of what has happened to the animals on sorna(if anything at all). And if there are plans to just continue to let them be or if people are going back to that island at some point. I want to know the answers to these questions personally.

We all do but it's not likely to be addressed in the movie itself, its taking precious minutes away from something that doesn't further the plot, it's bad storytelling. We may get some info in a viral website again or some type of kids book, figures or even an interview, hell if we're lucky maybe in a deleted scene. But it's not something that is important for the story of that movie so it won't be in it.

I know it was not a reboot and I know they are not trying to get the sequels out of the canon but what was the fourth film of a franchise had no reference to the second and third films of the franchise wich had significant events themselves.

No one asked JW to be a tribute to TLW and JP3 but at least some connection would have been nice. It is not like Isla Sorna was just a minor thing in the films, it was a huge part of the ingen storyline.

I really hope If Malcolm returns they don´t make him just like his JP version and nothing like how he was in TLW.

Many franchises don't do references to every film, it's understandable even if someone like me loves any little bit of continuity they can sneak in. But yeah no need to panic, Sorna will be mentioned.

Now Malcolm acting like JP1 Malcolm or just quoting himself from the first movie because of the internet memes is indeed a bit of a concern of mine. I don't even like TLW Malcolm but it shows that the character has changed and I would think that he has only changed more since then, not gone back.

I don't mind if the events of TLW and JP3 aren't mentioned, and I certainly don't want the film makers to think that they have to shoehorn references from TLW and JP3 into JW2 just to appease the fans.

As long as TLW and JP3 aren't retconned, and the events of those two films aren't contradicted (which admittedly is a worry after the scene in which Masrani mentioned that Hammond "gave him his blessing), then I'll be happy.

If the movie is about "where do dinosaurs now fit in our world after the JW incident" then why shouldn't it be addressed as to what is happening or happened to the animals on Sorna?

To me that's a huge potential plot point and a few sentences wouldn't be a waste at all imo. It's a Jurassic "world " after all.

Yeah, especially with Malcolm is there they would need to clarify that even if it's just a line that says "All dinosaurs were moved to Nublar before JW was built" which isn't the most satisfying answer...now that I think about it, that may be how they handle Sorna from now on...I hope not.

In fact whenever you have an Island with dinosaurs roaming free it is a big deal and very hard not to address.

Still...I don´t know... Universal gives me too much of a ´´Fans only like Jurassic Park that we know of, so let´s give them the JP version of Dr Malcolm since it appears that nobody likes TLW´´.

Maybe I am wrong about them...I hope I am wrong.
