The Velociraptor fossil in the first film was as big as the raptors from the park so maybe the JP universe has a very different fictional Mesozoic past than our own real life one? It fits with the inaccuracies of the Dominion Prologue which were intentionally done for Dominion.

It's the only way I can make sense of it.

As with the animal seen in the film, the velociraptor fossil is meant to represent "Velociraptor" anthirropus. Chrichton used Gregory S. Paul's Predatory Dinosaurs of the World as reference for the dinosaurs in the original novel where Paul, in his usual fashion, lumped Deinonychus anthirropus into the velociraptor genus. Some of the concept art for the first film references Deininychus, but of course they went with calling it velociraptor. The raptors in the film were also oversized in order to fit an actor inside a suit for some scenes.

I actually always thought about it that way.

Like even with the they look different because of the modern animals DNA.

Like for example when some complain about the raptors not being accurate, I just brush it off by thinking that is the way Raptors look in the Jurassic canon.
