| So in the "What would it take..." thread I was reminded of a theory that started on JPL some time after JW was released. Essentially the theory was that JW was way for Universal to ease people into the dinosaurs with guns plot of the rumored JP4 way back around '06 I believe. Now, I know that this might seem farfetched and I myself don't completely adhere to it, but I would lying if I said I don't think it's plausible.
The idea is that Universal still had interested in going back to the dinosaur with guns plot when they decided to dust JP of the shelves for a sequel. However, they remembered the intense amount of backlash that was received when the concept art and script were leaked and decided to take a more covert approach. They would disguise the homocraptors plot by going back to JP's roots and having Nublar be the site of a running theme park. They then tweaked the plot of the original movie to include a hybrid dinosaur and (the most important piece) a raptor pilot program with the intention of weaponizing dinosaurs in the future. To achieve "their" movie, they hired a relatively obscure director (Trevorrow) who wouldn't question the studio messing with the film. For Trevorrow it would be in his best interest to take the job regardless of whether it was his vision because his name would carry weight if JW was a success. Sure enough, this held true and he landed the Star Wars job shortly after. With JW in place, the second movie would feature a more in depth view into the militarized dinosaurs and eventually the third would be either homocraptors or just before.
There is weight to this theory; I. rex's existence is a big piece of evidence. We know it's intelligent but how is it more intelligent than the raptors? How is it able to manipulate the raptor squad into turning on Owen and the humans? How is it able to grab things with its thumb and most importantly what dinosaur "kills for sport"? All of this kind of points to the direction that I.rex was blended with some kind of ape, more specifically human DNA. Humans are the only animals to kill not only for food but also pleasure, and since it can use its thumbs it's probably some kind of ape.
It's also hard to believe that Universal would just throw the "trained raptors" into the mix just for kicks as there is clearly something going on behind the scenes with Wu, Hoskins and the military. With the way Wu lives in JW it's even harder to believe that militarized dinosaurs aren't going to be a major plot point in the second movie.
So how do we know that this is Trevorrow's movie? I remember there being a plot leak about good dinosaurs fighting bad ones at the end of the movie and then heard the script was going through a complete reworking. I have to say if you boil the ending of JW down it's very close to being the same thing. That plot leak also mentioned there being tamed dinosaurs and what do you know, trained raptors still were in the "reworked" plot; all of this is very suspicious to me.
Now I hope this idea is bogus and that we don't see militarized dinosaurs and most certainly not homocraptors but might JP/JW be heading there regardless of how much we don't like it? And is the I.rex technically the first hybrid along with being the first homocraptor in the franchise? What are your thoughts on this?

| Actually, some animals have been known to kill for sport, but it's very rare. I'm pretty sure that I remember Dilly Dilophosaur saying on JPL how apes have been known to do so. I also remember reading that some maneating animals like Nile Crocodiles have been known to do so as well.
Dinosaurs with human DNA via brain cells is one thing. Pure dinosaur/human hybrids would repulse even diehard fans. Jurassic Park would be going into Super Mario Bros. with that route. I love that movie since it's my favorite "It's so bad, it's good" movie, but I can't deny that it's the dumbest movie ever made. And having dinosaurs evolve into humanoids was one of the reasons. _______________ The undisputed dominant predator of Jurassic Mainframe.

| The short answer for me is "no".
I don't understand why this is still a thing. To me it seemed like that idea of humanized dinosaurs was nixed before it could happen, thanks in partiality to the backlash but also because Universal's level of intervention was (compared to WB and Sony) relatively moderate. This wasn't like Josh Trank in which the Fox executives were pretty much dictating the film and trying to draw blood from a stone. There's an interview with Colin Trevorrow which indicates that Universal allowed Spielberg to shepherd the production and give notes to Colin, who described their relationship as "collaborative", and given the sort of director and producer Spielberg is I think their relationship was much more amicable than it would have been if it was just Trevorrow and the studio.

As far as where we are now in the franchise, I don't think it's plausible because considering that the Militarized Raptors thing was one of the more heavily criticized aspects of the film (with Vincent D'Onofrio's character being so desperate to make this insane dream a reality being the other). Despite it's decent 71% on RT and 7.0 rating on IMDB, Jurassic World is still a fairly divisive film, but the more aforementioned B-movie aspects of the film are generally agreed to seem very out of place in a franchise that had kept things relatively grounded. Lastly, it doesn't strike me as likely that Universal would try to exact more mandates on a sequel to a successful, generally well-liked film, especially if they give it to a seasoned director who can blend storytelling with visual effects, rather than a hired gun who can do action and effects okay but story not so much. _______________ "Life will find a way."

Not only that, but if there really was this big push for homocraptors by the fanbase, then we would already be seeing, hearing, and talking about it by now. _______________ The undisputed dominant predator of Jurassic Mainframe.
