Will JW:D be streamed instead of being shown in theatres in 2022?

With WB deciding the stream their 2021 movie lineup instead of showing them in theaters, there is a decent chance that all other major movie studios will do so. Will Universal do so via Jurassic World: Dominion on their own streaming service Peacock in 2022?

I think it's possible for 3 reasons.

1. The fall of the movie theater industry: Of all the businesses that have suffered the worst of the Wuhan virus lockdowns, the movie theaters, big and small, are amoungst the worst that have suffered. After all, what's the point of releasing a movie when barely any movie theaters will be left?

2. Behavioral reactionarism: When a big business does something, everybody else (or mostly so) does the same thing.

3. Props up Peacock: While Peacock is small, having a high budget movie being exclusively streamed is a great way to increase viewers/subscribers.

No, if Uni wanted that they would have just released it in 2021 as planned. This will be going to the cinemas for sure. Most people will also by vaccinated against Covid by mid 2022 so people will want to get on with their lives, go out & enjoy a blockbuster like Jurassic on the big screen. If they are too scared, they can stay home & wait for the home release.

Well we do know it'll be on streaming/VOD a few weeks after it releases on cinemas given Universal's deal with the movie theaters

Again, how many movie theaters will be left at that point?

Why would they push it back a year then if they were worried all cinemas would be gone/closed forever?

The decision was made long before WB chose to stream their 2021 movie lineup. Not to mention how, at the time Uni made their decision, they thought that 2021 would be too crowded moviewise for JW:D to be as profitable as they hoped.

Well I hope at least here in Australia cinemas will survive till 2022 so I can see it on the big screen, don't care for watching a blockbuster like Jurassic on streaming for the very first time.

Like it or not, many people will be doing just that in 2021. So even if you do get your wish, you might not have a choice with some other movie down the line.



Also an open-question. Why was I neg-repped for asking a legit question and backing it up with legit thoughts?

Pretty sure Universal has some kind of deal where the films hit theatres for a few weeks and then straight to VOD.
