I haven't read the new ones myself, but I have to imagine alternate universe. The comics have already done universal events, where the originals crossed over with the cartoon versions, and showed several other universes, like a universe based on Dan Aykroyd's original concept, and several others.

Hopefully, Amy Pascal won't be involved, or at least have very minimal involvement. So far, from what I'm hearing, Reitman has the rights back.

Here's the thing, Reitman says a lot, I love him, but I'll believe it when I see it. I like the reboot, but I'd be happy if they went back and didn't do a sequel. I like he still thinks they can do a sequel to bring the two together, but he's going to crash the franchise if he brings up the reboot universe. There's a small fan base that likes it like me, but even I know as bad as it failed, even combining the universes would be a bad idea in film form.
What they need to do is go with the old idea before everyone involved gets too old. Make a new team, maybe two men and two women, have Ray be the tech guy and Winston be at the head of the corporation, based in the New York firehouse. If Murray wants in then bring back Venkman, if not, you can cleverly write him out. As for Egon, I'd just say he died, but maybe throw in hints he's made contact from the other side and still aiding the guys in some way. That way, we get a new, more likeable cast, the old universe, and the old guys can help bust one more time before moving on with new films (which Reitman's estate will assumingly be in control of since Reitman isn't getting any younger either.)

From what I can tell, his career is crippled in the sense that he'll never work on a major project ever again but he'll stick to his MO, female led spoof comedies. In other words, he's cornered in a spot that he'll never totally get out of, so we won't have to worry all that much.

In this case, it’s not the movie, it’s Leslie Jones being bitter. She didn’t deserve the crap she got but she should not be acting this way, especially since it’ll likely just bring backlash and run her off Twitter again.
