I remember the San Diego sequence was a complete surprise when TLW came out in 1997. It was fun, and I wish they'd somehow managed to keep more of FK's surprises in tact. The problem is, the first half on the island doesn't depict what the film is really about - so if they don't market the indoraptor/mansion/auction, how to they get across it's not just another "dino round-up/stuck on an island" installment?

It's a double-edged sword, really - show too little, or show too much. IMO they ended up doing the latter,

It's all good. Really, it's on Universal for their weird North American release date. I understand it's hard for people to censor themselves for weeks after a large chunk of people have already seen the film.

I know it's weird since i won't see a dime of what they make, but i really hope it hits 1.2-1.3 billion.

Looks like a billion is virtually a certainty at this point. So much for the naysayers xD

marketing for this movie is insane. Iv seen ads everywhere. My parents watch Spanish programming and they really utilize Bayona in those ads haha. You must be living under a rock to not know about this movie at this point.

I watched the film for the third time at the theater yesterday and this time I brought a friend of mine who loved Jurassic World but didn't know ANYTHING about Fallen Kingdom, except that Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard would return.
He enjoyed the hell out of it. He was so happy when he saw the Carnotaurus appear for example, or to see the gothic atmosphere of the third act, or during all the beautiful scenes that the trailers spoiled.

It's not being forced down people's throats every five minutes with clickbait articles and over saturated discussion articles like MCU which makes it feel more deserved, imo.

Tomorrow is the big day for me, cannot wait to see what everyone is taking about!!!

They were cut because of pacing. It is always like that.

I really hope to see the whole Directors Cut, not the BR scenes alone.

Saying the first cut of the movie was 2h40m long doesn't necessarily mean that the movie has 32 minutes of deleted scenes. Most movies tend have huge first cuts because they include alternate footage of the same scenes alongside, yes, scenes that end up being deleted. As an example, a lot of movies that end up being 2h30m long have first cuts that are 4h long.

Also, lord almighty, I'm so glad that scene she described isn't in the final movie. Not because of Zia being a lesbian, mind you, but because of the absolutely terrible dialogue, and the unnecessary stroking of Pratt's character's ego. Are Trevorrow and Connolly in love with their own character? Seriously, the amount of in-movie commentary about how Owen is a badass, awesome and attractive is really cringy.

Also, that line of dialogue is really tone-deaf about homosexuality (and obviously written by two straight men), and would have caused a lot of (deserved) controversy online had it been in the final movie. Couldn't Zia just say she is a lesbian in a throwaway line, without having to mention that she thinks the male protagonist is attractive first?

Well it's not like they made her straight, they just didn't feel the need to explain that she's a lesbian as it wasn't relevant to the story. Just like they never felt the need to explain any of the other supporting characters' sexualities. It just wasn't relevant to the story that was told in the movie what any of the supporting characters' sexualities were .

It's lame that they cut out Zia's sexual preference, even though it sounds more like a time issue and less like they were worried about offending homophobic people.

"Alien: Covenant" did the same thing - Lope/Demian Bichir was supposed to be gay in that, but the only way you'd know was to watch the short film that came out before the actual movie (even though his husband was in the movie and they had scenes together).

But yeah, I hope they release the deleted/alternate scenes on the blu-ray. I believe JW was the only film to release all of its deleted scenes so far (TLW only did the two, despite there being several more).

It's important for the same reason Daniella keeps saying that Zia, a Latina character is important - because people who usually aren't represented in popular culture get to see themselves represented in popular culture, which makes them feel accepted/empowered, and also helps them to be accepted in the wider populace.

It's important for the same reason that as a nerdy Jewish kid, in a town with very few nerds and/or Jews, seeing Jeff Goldblum as a heroic lead character made me feel represented in my favorite movies (and yes, I'm aware Malcolm isn't Jewish).

It's not like it was going to be a huge part of the plot...it's not like Zia was going to hit on Claire the entire time. If anything, it's a throw-away line, which makes it even weirder that they didn't have time for it.

Besides, we've had plenty of straight couples in JP/JW - Grant & Ellie, Malcolm & Sarah, Paul & Amanda, Ellie & Mark, and Owen & Claire. Why not a mention of a character who's gay?

Because virtue signaling winds up damaging the product. Just look at how Star Wars is taking a dump, in part due to being 'woke' and how Marvel comics has imploded ever since it became a SJW propaganda piece. (There's a reason why Carol Danvers has been called Karl Manvers for a few years now.)


I'm part of a movie group on Facebook and all of them like this. If anything else, they are sick of this bullcrap, and many of them are center-left and fairly liberal. Besides, nobody asked for an alphabet soup human character.

I'm so fucking mad that they cut it and people are saying it's not important or revelant to the franchise.

It's called background and development for a character.

Malcolm, Ellie, Grant and other characters got backgrounds that aren't important to the franchise, WHY ZIA CAN'T HAVE 30 SECONDS for her character? No seriously, the double standards of this fandom makes me want to puke.

And I'm not talking about the fact that she's LGBT but the fact that people think it's useless to have more character background in the movie.

Did anybody complain about Ian Malcolm getting 5 minutes of irrelevant screentime in JW FK??? Or about Ellie and Grant having that useless in character chat??? NO.

If it was Ian Malcolm coming across as GAY nobody would be saying it's irrelevant for the character and how this franchise is "about dinosaurs" and blablablablabla. You could have Ian Malcolm talking trash about his boring days in life and everyone wouldn't complain or say how irrevelant it was.

THE CHARACTERS NEED DEVELOPMENT. And if you think not, then don't dare complain about flat character as lead such as Owen Grady.
