They probably debated until Hammond died. Lockwood took probably years before actually giving life to the clone.

I don't think so, since Lockwood says she visited the park once.

If you look at when Lockwood is watching the album on the bed, you can see the photos look quite old.
They're probably photos of young original Maisie, who IMO was born like in the mid 70s and died in the early 90s, so probably a bit older than the actual Maisie clone is now, like 15 or 20 years old IMO.

Some time after Hammond and Lockwood started creating the first dinosaurs in the late 80s-early90s, Maisie died in the car accident, so they started to debate about cloning Maisie. Hammond didn't want that due to ethical matters, and also because Lockwood should have got over his loss and just go on.

They had an argument, so I think they split up a bit before '93. I think Lockwood secretly began to clone Maisie, failing (he needed Dr Wu to help him), and when Hammond found out about his failed experiment, he abandoned him and kicked him off of the Jurassic Park project. That's why Mills said "John Hammond was right. It was an unholy thing that you did".

In '97 Hammond died, and I think Lockwood felt a bit guilty of not being close to him in his last years. He started to realize those animals deserved to be left in peace without human interference (like Hammond said on TV), hence why I think Lockwood IMO never went to Jurassic World, but he surely went to Jurassic Park before Grant & co in the early 90s, bringing also his daughter (before the car accident of course). Dinosaurs were already there, despite the park yet to be opened.

But Lockwood still wanted his daughter back. It probably took years in order to get Dr Wu working for him. So in 2008, more or less, new Maisie was born.

At first I wasn't sure what I thought about the twist. but then I realized that in a universe where cloning dinosaurs was possible, why not humans too X)

Cloning humans is more believable than dinosaurs at the moment. I thought it was a cool idea.

I dig this direction more than than they hybridization or domesticated raptors concepts. It opens the door to all sorts of possibilities plot-wise, but it (hopefully) leaves the dinosaurs themselves alone.

As Owen once said, "They're dinosaurs....Wow enough."

Loved the idea, execution was the main problem for me.

Personally I think you could have cut the hybrid entirely and made the film way more about Lockwood and Maisie, while having real animals escape.

Indoraptor is really cool but it didn’t excite or interest me. A human clone on the other hand and the ethics and mystery behind it is a awesome concept on its own, and I feel the author of JP would agree.

I'm pretty sure it just didn't occur to the screenwriters that the ages didn't match at all. Especially with a line of dialogue like "John Hammond was right: it was an unholy thing that you did"

"Try to imagine yourself in the Late Quaternary. You get your first look at this six-foot Psittacosaurus as you enter a city. You stay still, because you think that maybe its visual acuity is based on movement. Maybe it's not all that bright. But no... not Homo sapiens. You stare at it, and it stares right back at you. And that's when it starts shooting you with this... THE GUN!" - Dr. Mongoliensis

The thing here is like hammond died 20 years ago. Maisie is 9-10 in the movie. So Lockwood waited a long time before cloning her. Maybe he wasnt successful the first few times?

I'm guessing Hammond took every piece of technology, staff and funding away from Lockwood, and it wasn't until Wu showed up that he was able to clone Maisie.

Yeah, that's what I said a few posts before.

Maybe JW3 will further explain the backstory.

I didn't had a problem with the reveal. Like some of you said, when they could bring back dinosaurs, why not a human?

According to the photo and how young Iris looked in the picture, I believe it was made sometimes in the 60's. I do believe that Maisie was a grown woman, when she died in the car crash, some time in the mid to late 80's.

Altough, I didn't like the execution of it. I tought it was cheesy like that being the "reason" to let the animals free.
I would like it more, if that scene was a metaphor for life breaks free. It crashes through boundaries painfully, maybe even dangerously etc.
