I'd actually be okay with this if

Carl was alive and he could take up the mantle.
Yeah, the ratings have been going down already. Without Andrew Lincoln, I can't see many people sticking around. It might have been OK if, like you suggested, Chandler Riggs were around to take up the mantle, but that obviously isn't the case.
I'm really not on board with Norman Reedus mumble-talking his way through the lead role.

Definitely not, and I really like Norman Reedus. As his character stands now they would basically have to make him a new man to be the lead. Aka change his character fully.
I haven’t enjoyed walking dead in a long time all that much, but last seasons end gave me hope to see something somewhat new and exciting. Personally I think the show needs to be cut to 10-12 episodes per season and the budget raised.
I think if this is true the show is cooked though. I was hoping for a good end.

You're correct in that Kurtzman (like his dark master JJ Abrams) is an abject imbecile, The Mummy was awful, and Star Trek: Discovery is awful - IMO anyway.
However, I find the potential return of Patrick Stewart exciting. I'd love a 24th century Trek/TNG sequel...they could explore what happened after the Dominion War.

To be fair, at least Abrams has a vision and cares about the properties of what he's working with. How he handles them is for debate, but at least he's a respectable director. Kurtzman...not so much.

A respectable director...perhaps? A talented director...nope. All he knows how to do is regurgitate Spielberg and Lucas by way of Michael Bay/Zach Snyder.
Star Trek - Hyperactive Star Wars remake Super 8 - Hyperactive Amblin remake Star Trek into Darkness - ???? The Force Awakens - Another hyperactive Star Wars remake Episode XI - Undoubtedly another hyperactive Star Wars remake
Why he's so lauded is beyond me. Granted, his TV series such as Westworld are better...but he's marginally involved in those.

I'm just stoked that we're getting some new Trek in the prime universe again. All this timeline jumping was starting to annoy me xD

Everyone who likes horror and strong character-driven storytelling should check out "The Haunting of Hill House" on Netflix (a co-production of Amblin). It's pretty damn good, even if it's nothing like the book or the original movie.
