Gallimimus is noticeable for it's appearance; that of a large, tailed ostrich. With long, gangly legs,
Gallimimus was very quick on its feet, perhaps reaching speeds in excess of 40mph. Although there is no evidence supporting flocking behavior, the animals in the film,
Jurassic Park are shown doing so.
Gallimimus was an omnivore; it consumed both small animals such as insects and lizards as well as plant matter.
Role in
Jurassic Park: Dr. Alan Grant traversing Isla Nublar with Lex and Tim Murphy after being stranded in the Park by the
rex break-out happen upon a flock of the animals fleeing from the
T. rex. Taking cover under a large, old log, the animals proceed to leap over the log and in turn Grant and Co. only for one of their flock members to be taken down by the
Tyrannosaurus, who then proceeds to consume it's kill as the rest of the flock either continues fleeing or stops to watch.
Gallimimus is among the animals fleeing the nets of the InGen Harvesters on an Isla Sorna game trail. A specimen was captured by the InGen team, as one is seen fleeing the InGen encampment after their breakout with the help of Nick Van Owen and Dr. Sarah Harding.
Gallimimus is also an attraction in Jurassic World, where viewers can watch them from large, safari trucks.
