Member of JPL since 2007

Hey everybody.

My name is DeiXnonychus. I was a member of JPL since 2007, although I slowly became a lurker as I gradually got more busy with high school, eventually college, getting a girlfriend and starting work. I made a lot of mods for JPOG including the Walking with Dinosaurs and JP Toy Mod Packs with Yoshilosaurus5000 (If you're in this forum, what's poppin my man.) I got curious and looked up JPL recently, only to find it gone. This was heartbreaking to me as I had a lot of fond memories there. I made a lot of good friends as well. I remember Meat Hook, who was my first friend on the forum. Then there was Dilly. I remember Segi, though I hadn't seen him post since around 2010. I remember Yangchuanosaurus and joined her Dinosaur King forum (I even became a mod lol). This whole community is very nostalgic to me and after rewatching Jurassic World and playing the Lego game I want to become a part of it again. I may not be able to be as active as I was a decade ago, but I'll pop in every once in a while to say hello.

Lovely to have you here. You probably don't recognize me though, I only joined JPL in May of 2014. Anyways, yes, JPL's last days (Announced June 7th, ended June 11th) were disheartening, but we made the best of it. Some of us were even breaking major rules, such as the big "no pornography" rule. I even claimed the last post of JPL! I hope to talk to you in more threads soon!

Nobody cared about the rules at the last few minutes (Swearing was acceptable all day though). The person posting it was a staff member actually!

It got pretty bad, I hated all that. I wanted it to go out on a positive note but hey what can you do. If your looking for some of the old JPL people, check the memorial thread.

I had no clue there were people who didn't like our behavior. I thought it was fitting to make fun of a bad situation.

If I may ask, what exactly led to the shut down? Was it something that happened over several months or did Ty just no longer have the time and resources to keep the website up?

First of all, welcome to Jurassic Mainframe.

As for the shut down. It was mainly due to Ty getting and tired of the crap that the JP fanbase gave him via his mental health. He also said that it was time for him to start to lead a normal life, or as normal as possible, and that the site via all the issues of the past were beginning to be too much of an emotional/psychological drain on him.

That's the basics of it anyway.

I see. That sucks. Looking at other places like Reddit had a lot more information on the drama which surprised me as during the early days on JPL Ty didn't act like how many people described. Are there other old timers on the forum? I looked in the memorial thread and some people hadn't posted in months lol. I fondly remember PopcornPlaya and Dilly_Dilophosaur. I also remember Oshronosaurus (Didn't interact with him much but saw hme post all the time) and RobotPo. I'm surprised I remember all these names lol.

Yes, Osh and some other old timers are here. I know Dilly isn't. I myself was a JPL'er in March 2015, the final full year it was active.

Ty almost shut it down in late 2014. I was a lurker myself at the time. You see, the members were so excited about JW coming out, that they let their passions turn ugly. It took a direct shut down threat from Ty, who was really grumpy from dealing with all the craziness, for it to stop, but that was the final time that JPL avoided a 'death penalty' so to speak.

It's truly a shame that Ty had put the weight of an entire fandom on his shoulders, something that you'd never find anywhere else. I'm honestly glad with what he's done, it was for his own good.

And yet he never had to do that. Personal choice, really.

I've been doing good, starting my Master's Degree at University.
