PostTriceratops horridus

Species: Triceratops horridus
Length: 25ft
Height: 10ft
Location: North America
Time Period: Cretaceous
Movies: Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park ///
Games: Jurassic Park: Trespasser, Warpath: Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis, Jurassic Park ///: Park Builder, Jurassic Park: The Game
Bio: The largest of the ceratopsian dinosaurs, Triceratops is easily distinguished by it's two long horns sprouting above it's eyes and slightly smaller horn on the snout above it's beak like mouth. Being from late-Crecateous North America, it is likely that Triceratops battled with most famous of carnivores, Tyrannosaurus rex, it's horn used as defense. Once thought to be only a herbivore, we now know that Triceratops was actually an omnivore that consumed flesh for vital nutrience it required. it is speculated that the frill of Triceratops, like on other frilled ceratopsians, was used for display.
Role in Jurassic Park: A sick specimen is first encountered by Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, Tim and Lex Murphy, Ian Malcolm, Donald Genarro, and the Jurassic Park veterinarian team led by Gerry Harding. Here, the paleontologists Grant and Sattler attempted to find a diagnosis for the sick Triceratops. After identifying a plant as West Indian Lilac, a toxic plant, Ellie Sattler investigates a mound of Triceratops dung looking for traces of the plant, yet finds none. In a cut scene, we see Ellie Sattler discovering a pile of gizzard stones that contain traces of the West Indian Lilac, therefore the cause of the Triceratops sickness being the animal accidentally ingesting the toxic plant when consuming new stones for it's gizzard.

In the sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Triceratops is one of the animals that Nick Van Owen and Sarah Harding release from their cages. Subsequently the animals charges a tent where Peter Ludlow is holding a press conference via video feed. After which, the animal rampages the InGen harvester's camp, overturning vehicles and causing chaos.

Triceratops is once again found in Jurassic Park ///, where a herd is spotted by Alan Grant while in the plane chartered by the Kirby's who have come to Sorna to find their stranded son.
