| This year, there have been a lot of blockbuster sequels being released that underperformed; a few noteworthy examples are:
- The Huntsman: Winters War, - Alice Through the Looking Glass, - London Has Fallen, - TMNT: Out of the Shadows,
A lot of these sequels failed to mixed to outright negative word of mouth and reviews, while a couple of the like Huntsman and Alice where belated sequels to pretty mediocre fantasy flicks. Even X-Men Apocalypse, arguably the best of that bunch performed below what Fox was hoping for. Does anyone fear that this same kind of lackluster box office could befall JW2 or cause Universal to go into panic mode and not promote JW2 the way they should?
I understand if to you all that sounds like an absurd possibility, considering the record breaking success of JW's box office, after all Jurassic World is still Universal's Star Wars tier franchise in terms of popular appeal and filmmaking pedigree. However, given that the excess of blockbuster franchises and sequels of the last few years has started to turn against itself, Jurassic Park could be the next victim.
Again, this isn't an attempt to disparage the Jurassic series, I love it! But I am curious about other people's thoughts on this, given recent events. _______________ "Life will find a way."

| Will need a good story but it is a little crazy to expect it to do as good as JW. That had a lot of wish fulfillment and nostalgia that won't happen here. It will easily make a cool billion if it is half decent or even bad. Don't expect Titanic or anything. At least not yet. Billion and a half is the ceiling for it I think.
Universal is in no way going to promote this and be scared. It will be all out. They have two chances to make serious money. That is to say two major franchises. and given how they've treated the sequels to their other big chance at cashing in (fast and furious), JW2 will get major marketing. It won't be panic mode for them unless the movie is panned and audiences hate advance screenings.
So I would expect tempered but good success (Empire to JWs A New Hope) and heavy marketing in the face of these recent sequel disappointments from other films.

| I doubt it will beat JW's box office. Depends also on what we will get. _______________ "Chaos theory is a pseudoscience you asshole" - Headcanon line from Sickle_ClawFormer JPL member, Spinosaur4.4. | |

| It won't touch what JW did, but 1 billion is attainable.
Of the examples of box office flops that the OP listed, none of those series has anywhere close to the cultural relevance of the JP franchise, so it's a little hard to compare them.
We're more likely looking at a situation similar to the financial gap between The Avengers and The Avengers: AOU....possibly a bit more of a gap than that, but not a whole lot. _______________ Dinosaurs still rule the earth

You know, I'm glad you said that! We all agree that Jurassic Park is of greater cultural significance than the aforementioned sequels, most of which are sequels to mediocre or outright terrible films. In further contrast to the films listed above (though I personally enjoyed X-Men Apocalypse), it seems to me like Amblin and Universal are taking proactive steps to keep the quality of the JP series up by bringing on a director who can adhere to it's Crichton roots and less of the absurd militarized dinos root. At least that communicates to me that there is effort behind the production. _______________ "Life will find a way."
